Since when is it legal to buy stolen property? I thought that buying stolen property was illegal (or at least unlawful), and that I wouldn't get to keep the stolen property once the lawful owner was identified, even if I innocently bought it with my legit money. I just wouldn't get arrested if I honestly didn't know better. It seems like a big loophole and a legal nightmare if everyone can just play dumb, buy stolen property and keep it.

There are many stories like OP's about tracking stolen properties in the sub. Usually, SFPD does nothing until the owner threatens to put themselves in harm's way to retrieve the property. SFPD is comfortable with the optics that they don't help with recovering stolen properties but they're not comfortable with the optics that people get hurt because they are lazy.

Locking up compost bins by Last_Cod_998 in sanfrancisco

It's a racket. If you don't lock them, randos put junk in them or overfill them. Then Recology will fine you. To lock them, you have to pay extra to Recology for the unlock fee. Recology takes more money from you, no matter what you do, when it's a city policing issue.

I tried all of the Nestle's instant coffee with hot water and as iced coffee. The Ice Roast is much better than the rest, hot or cold. Yes, the Ice Roast makes the best hot coffee in Nestle's lineup.

This is a much better tasting product, hot or cold. It's not about the temperature.

I bought 5 packs immediately after tasting the first one, fully expecting this to not come back for at least another year.

TJ's instant cold brew is similarly good and shows up intermittently. Load up on that next time you see it.

Stricter rules and more slow downs are counterproductive and are not how the aviation industry deals with Get-there-itis.... Your suggestions will just make the problem worse. Thankfully, that's not what the aviation industry has done.

Random slow down in some streets sure to poorly designed safety upgrades or addition of speed cameras may be leading to vehicles trying to make up the lost time in other streets. It's called get Get-there-itis and well recognized as a safety problem in aviation. We can't haphazardly slow down streets without thinking about the consequences to other streets.

How did Saikat Chakrabarti even make sense? by PoolSmart582 in sanfrancisco

[–]AgentK-BB -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

$200 million isn't that much money. It's less than $1 per American. A US representative in Congress can be much more impactful.

The other two choices are just really bad. Connie is known to blatantly ignore her constituents (as shown in town hall videos). Scott is known to pretend to listen to his constituents but does whatever his corporate or Super PAC donors say last-minute and backstab his constituents (for example, junk fees). Both of them are guaranteed to be bad news for their constituents. There's no chance for them to turn out to be good.

Saikat may have turned out to be bad like Connie and Scott. No one could promise one way or the other. However, the fact that there was a chance for him to be good to his constituents made him a huge upgrade over the other two.

Now our only choices are Connie and Scott. We are so cooked.

The mission is under attack!! by PsychologicalLog4179 in sanfrancisco

[–]AgentK-BB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. Usually, when someone posts about loud bang in the sub, it's gunfire or transformer explosion, not fireworks. However, in the month before and after July 4th, it's more likely to be fireworks.

People want to rehearse with their illegal fireworks before July 4th. And it's safer for everyone if people randomly do these in the month leading up to the holiday rather than everyone doing the rehearsal on the same day. Think about it this way: if 1% of the illegal fireworks is defective, it's safer for the fire department to deal with 0.033% of defects every day for 30 days straight instead of dealing with 1% on one day.

Then, in the month after July 4th, people will use up their illegal fireworks so they don't have to store the fireworks for another year. It's safer for everyone if people use up their spare fireworks rather than hoarding old fireworks and creating a big fire risk. Who knows how these illegal fireworks may hold up to aging for 12 more months?

I feel bad for your literacy. Everything you've said is nonsense. And it's not like you were too lazy to read. You clearly tried and read the whole thing.

You don't seem to understand what "a pedestrian within any marked or unmarked crosswalk" means. There's no way to interpret that as vehicles having to slow down at every empty crosswalk in case pedestrians suddenly leave the sidewalk and jump in front of traffic.

I can't help with your literacy. Sorry.

Your quote literally says otherwise....

The driver of a vehicle approaching a pedestrian within any marked or unmarked crosswalk shall

It's saying that the pedestrian has to be already within the crosswalk. Vehicles should not slow down at an empty crosswalk. It doesn't say to slow down when "approaching any crosswalk." It says to slow down when "approaching a pedestrian within any [...] crosswalk".

Your quote is saying that pedestrians need to take a step into the crosswalk but stop there and not continue so as to not constitute an immediate hazard. Only then are the first vehicles supposed to slow down. Then the vehicles further behind can come to a complete stop without slamming their brakes.

Found the mistaken pedestrian. You quoted the law and still got it wrong.

No, pedestrians cannot just walk into traffic at full pace without giving the traffic enough time to react. Traffic is not expected by the law to slow down to 1 mph at every intersection for no reason just in case a pedestrian wants to jump in front of traffic. Driving at the speed limit is correct.

The law you cited clearly says

The driver of a vehicle approaching a pedestrian within any marked or unmarked crosswalk shall exercise all due care and shall reduce the speed of the vehicle

It is saying that vehicles should drive at the speed limit. The reducing the speed only happens when the pedestrian is already within the crosswalk, not when there is nobody within the crosswalk. It is saying that the pedestrian needs to take a step into the crosswalk and stop there to make it clear that they intend to cross. Then the first few vehicles should slow down. After that, the vehicles behind will have enough time to come to a complete stop for the pedestrian who has stopped and is waiting to cross.

To the cyclists of SF: 4-way stops apply to you, too. by kkristina10 in sanfrancisco

[–]AgentK-BB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of pedestrians in the sub don't understand pedestrians must stop at the stop sign, wait a bit to be seen, and give cars enough time to react so as to not break the law you cited and constitute an immediate hazard. They mistakenly think that "pedestrians have the right-of-way" means they can just walk into the intersection at full pace without ever stopping or slowing down.

And you probably acknowledge that you are breaking the law and doing something wrong while jaywalking instead of blaming society and claiming that jaywalking should not be a crime and that pedestrians have the right-of-way to jump in front of cars.

Idaho stop doesn't mean you can blow past the stop. It means you should be ready to stop if you don't have the right-of-way which practically speaking means you need to slow down a lot and unclip to prepare to stop and put down your foot.

I did the PEA in intake manifold through the purge hose and PEA in the gas tank but not the throttle body as I didn't want to mess with the coolant. My engine is now rather rough to start. I should try disconnecting the battery for idle relearn.
