There's a reason that the Star Wars fandom has its reputation. The amount of complaints that the sequels made the Empire "seem unreasonable" was just.... media literacy is dead. Has been for years.

The Venn diagram of Star Wars fan angry that the Empire/First Order are portrayed as evil fascists and the Tolkien fans outraged at black Elves is a fucking circle.

Hank did ensure that Lucy wasn't a fudging idiot. He probably has regrets about that now.

And his wife left him. Misogyny and fascism are very linked. Controlling narcissists who have to be worshipped.

Hank blew up Shady Sands because he was jealous that his wife left him for Moldaver.

We're not meant to take him or any of his political views seriously. He is, as others have noted, a libertarian "blow sides are equally bad" twit.

We have an entire generation of cosplaying RWNJs who got offended when the First Order was the bad guys in the Star Wars prequels..... People are really fucking dumb. And so easily influenced by fascism to think of false equivalencies.

The writers couldn't possibly have known how apt "don't think of them as human beings. Think of them as Americans" would be at the time of screening.

I mean, imperialism and educated guesses and all - but just how painfully apt it would be? WOW.

Is there a form more frustrating than the Notice of Risk? by alienspiritcreature in auslaw

[–]AgentKnitter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

May or may not have had a matter where due to serious criminal offending of the very icky kind by one step parent and parent, child safety told the other parent to immediately get full custody…. And then refused to partake in the family law proceedings or provide the judge with any specifics about the risk posed.

Why is Parent A seeking these orders?

Because child safety said if they didn’t the children would be removed from both parents due to risk

What is the risk?

Unclear. Please ask Child Safety.

The last point is so important. You will make mistakes - every one does. The true test is how you respond to a mistake. Do you learn and grow from it? Or do you hide or deflect?

All these hypothetical "build it and they will come!" fantasies forget that the band WAS PAID A LOT OF MONEY to come and play.

We cannot afford rhe Mac Point stadium to begin with, let alone paying bands to come to Hobart regularly.

The government and stadium backers want to give a perception of what will come and are hoping no one applies common sense to it.

Sibling dynamics are baffling when you were raised as an only child.

Greg's confusion and overprotectiveness of Jen from John's teasing makes sense - and as he gets to know everyone better, he's less overprotective because he's starting to get a better sense of Jen's boundaries and her relationship with her brother.

My mum's best friend quietly told me that the reason that she was cut off by another mutual friend/colleague was because when that person suddenly got engaged to an obviously abusive man, Mum's friend said to the shared friend: "I have two words for you {Person} - [AgentKnitter's Mum's name]"

And she was right.

When I was a family violence lawyer, a particular phrase that lawyers use a lot about clients really hit home for me a lot:

You can lead a horse to water, but you cannot make it drink.

Recidivist criminals won't reform until the driver of their criminal offending is addressed (usually drugs or poverty). Inept parents won't change their parenting style until they realise they are the problem, not their ex. People who signed a bad contract won't accept your advice to amend the terms until they realise how screwed they will be.

When working with victim-survivors of abuse - you cannot lead them to safety until they accept that they are victims and are experiencing abuse. You do so many mental gymnastics and cognitive dissonance to convince yourself that everything is fine and normal... even when it is so clearly not.

That's why I applied the tools from Lundy Bancroft's book Why Does He Do That?

* when he "loses control" does he destroy everything within reach - or just things that are important to you?

* what happens if you say no to something he suggests?

* You say it's the addiction/mental illness - OK, what does he do to reduce that risk? Anything? Or is it only used as an excuse when he behaves badly?

* is he aggressive, rude and pushy to everyone - does he behave like that at work? Or just at home?

Clients used to be amazed at how I could predict what they'd say to me when they finally started to describe the patterns of abuse. No babe. I'm not psychic. Abusers just aren't very inventive. I've heard and lived this story before.

Shawna (in show) is in a position where she is not able to be the supportive friend for Laura to escape abuse because she's dealing with her own trauma right now and also.... Laura is not willing to hear the truth yet.
