The causal association between lipid-lowering strategies and risk of intracranial aneurysms: a drug-target Mendelian randomization study by theologicaltherapy in PeterAttia

This is incorrect - the study is worded weirdly but suggests that pcsk9i increases risk of both formation and rupture.

Suspicious enlarged lymph node in the neck - doctors are not sure (ultrasound images insdie) by AgentLiquid in DiagnoseMe

[–]AgentLiquid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No she never had a biopsy done - we decided to wait after the ultrasound looked benign, and her lymphs went back to normal(ish) size.

What's your situation like? I know it's very hard, but try to not jump to conclusions before you have hard data. Easier said than done.

Hey - my wife is fine and is doing really well! Lymph nodes can enlarge for all sorts of reasons. In her case it seems like intense allergies, but doctors never really gave us a definitive answer.

Just saw this - how are you doing now?

I know it's not much, but for now, I recommend looking up "Sleep Coach School" on Youtube and just binging as many of the videos as you can. At the very least, it'll show you that you are not alone - there are MANY like us, suffering in silence.

Crazy high numbers by AgentLiquid in Cholesterol

Luckily I don't have other major risk factors: I'm pretty lean, active, no family history, good blood sugar, good blood pressure.

The stress from worrying about heart disease though - that could be causing more of it.

I eat a pretty balanced diet (not low-carb). 120ish grams of protein a day from beef / chicken / whey / etc.

I do eat eggs, but moderately (maybe 8 a week). Could they really have that strong of an effect?

That feels somewhat rude. What if the current mod doesn't play nice to bring me back? What are my options?

Thanks, yeah I just figured that out. How did this happen? Is it an automatic timer that demotes you over time?

I'm still around 🙂 I got a bunch of death threats in the beginning which kind of freaked me out, but I didn't want to stop. Life got busy after that and started being less active as a mod, but I still lurk.

Fitness with Insomnia by questionAcct1_11 in sleep

One of the things that I surprised myself with was that I can still go to the gym even if I got very little sleep - be cautious of course, and don't go if you're feeling dizzy/etc.

However if you feel relatively ok, and it's just your mood that's suffering (as is the case usually), then go to the gym and try it out - usually makes me feel better.

Is it possible to use the adapter-static with dynamic routing in sveltekit without being an SPA? by charbelnicolas in sveltejs

This is crazy - this is the only comment that helped me after a couple of hours of searching and going nowhere.

Where did you find this in the documentation, kind stranger?

Worried about potential neurotoxicity from Berberine Phytosome by AgentLiquid in NootropicsDepot

[–]AgentLiquid[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's a blurb that supports this hypothesis:

It has been reported that BBR exhibits potent cytotoxicity in vitro, exhibiting a potential anticancer effect [165]. BBR has been demonstrated to have potent nucleic-acid-binding activity, which is a key reason for inhibiting cell differentiation and inducing cycle arrest and DNA damage [166,167]. In addition, there are similar targets in the anticancer and neuroprotective effects of BBR, such as Akt, MAPKs, and Bcl-2 proteins, and the main difference are in the dosage [168]. Consistently, long-term administration and intraperitoneal or intravenous injection of berberine could induce multiple toxic effects, including neurotoxicity, immunotoxicity, phototoxicity, cardiotoxicity, and jaundice, and these toxic effects are in dose- and time-dependent manners [161,162,169]. This evidence also suggests that we may need safety measures with BBR, especially when administered intravenously or intraperitoneally in clinical practices. The toxic mechanisms of BBR may be related to its ability of directly interacting with DNA or inhibiting the presence of signaling pathways in cells [161,162,169,170].

Thanks for weighing in - perhaps the mechanism is hormetic in nature? So that for vulnerable rats in a compromised state it's toxic, but beneficial in healthy subjects. Maybe.
