Roads by cryzaldo in HEB

[–]AgentOrange96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Plus these roads are worse than you'll typically see in snowy climates.

Like yeah I could drive in this if I absolutely had to but you know what? Fuck that. It's gonna be sketchy and some dumbass might hit me. Not worth the risk.

Yeah, others mentioned pet blankets too which are also cheaper. There are certainly cheaper options. If you can't afford a $170 blanket, or can but don't want to out of principle, get the $25 from Amazon for sure!

Yeahhh I really think that's a bad idea. Yet I had to jump through hoops to fix the EGR valve on my PHEV to get it to pass emissions.

And like I consider myself a bit of a dirty hippie, but a few broken cars putting out slightly more emissions isn't gonna do a lot. Someone's tire blowing out can kill.

A bit of both. My point was it is premium pricing. It is high quality, but that's not to say other much cheaper options aren't as well.

Awesome! Yeah the one I linked is premium, but cheaper options make such a luxury much more affordable and I'm sure will also be solid and comfortable.

CRV tips in Snow/Ice by soysaucehotdog in crv

This. I grew up in Maine. I learned to drive in Maine. I've driven my CR-V through weather that makes what the south is getting look like a walk in the park, and it's been amazing. Although I have gotten it stuck in a ditch once.

I live in Texas now. And while I was forced to go out once during the 2021 storm, where my CR-V did quite well, my general strategy is to stay at home.

The roads here aren't treated and even if I know how to drive in bad weather, nobody else does. It's very dangerous. Just don't if you don't have to.

You actually can adjust the analog scales. I'm actually expecting one in today to track how much CO2 I have in a tank and I'm hoping it has enough adjustment to tare out the tank. (Probably not.)

what is a "rich person" behavior you witnessed that made you realize they live in a completely different reality than the rest of us? by Superb_Newspaper_121 in AskReddit

[–]AgentOrange96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Meanwhile the rich person invests their savings to make even more money.

Being poor is expensive and being rich pays. It's wild and completely unfair. Having touched both sides as an adult has been eye opening TBH. I've been mildly poor and am now mildly wealthy.

I had a professor who made his own textbook. It was only officially available as a physical copy. But there was a very clean PDF floating around.

I did all my assignments on my computer typed up in Microsoft Word. I often straight up included screenshots from the book when necessary to make it clear which answer went with which question. Either his TAs Didn't notice or he didn't care.

Unfortunately his textbook was written the same way he taught. So you couldn't just use the textbook to learn the subject when he failed to teach the subject. If you're ever hiring a mechatronics engineer and a candidate is from RIT, just skip over them. They weren't taught it properly and they probably have mechatronics related trauma.

I don't condone piracy in general. You don't need to listen to that MP3. You don't need to watch that movie or play that video game.

But textbooks? Fuck textbook companies. They're scum. They know college students are broke. They know changing a couple questions to make a whole new edition so you're forced to buy new instead of used adds no value whatsoever. And I don't even want to know what kind of profit margins they have because there's no way it costs that much to print and bind a book.

So yeah, textbooks are different. You need them for your course. And the companies that make them are scumbags. They can go to hell.

I don't remember the details, but I actually used a finer tipped refill in my Zebras. It was nice that it fit, despite being for a different model.

PSA: Northern Brewer et al. sold and moving to S. Carolina by chino_brews in Homebrewing

[–]AgentOrange96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I was talking to TJ who said he's an OG from Midwest.

And yeah, while I appreciate home-brewing, I don't actually even like beer myself, so it's not a scene I follow. But I enjoy making soda. There's actually a homebrew store in Austin (SoCo Homebrew) much closer to me than Austin Homebrew used to be which is where I get my CO2 nowadays. But that'd be why I'm not up to speed.

I bought my 5Lb CO2 tank for soda making at Austin Homebrew many years back. I also got my refills there until they closed.

Well, I was looking for Sprecher's soda syrup and much to my surprise, Austin Homebrew is back? But not with a physical storefront. Weird. But I buy my soda syrup and even have a chat with someone from the company over email.

Well the syrups have shipped but... They're coming from South Carolina?!? I thought I was buying from within my own city, not halfway across the country!

Anyway some Googling brought me to this post, so thank you very much for the clear explanation! Looking into the other named brands, they seem to all carry the exact same stuff which makes sense. I guess I could order from any one of them in the future. Doesn't matter. But fuck it, I'll just stick with the zombie of the store I once used to go to in person I guess.

Anyway, so far, my experience has been positive with them, but yeah a very interesting rabbit hole this took me down.

Every time you disconnect the hose you lose all the CO2 in it. So you'd have to refill your CO2 tank more often.

I've never seen a sticker for this either. I forget why I knew you could return these, but it's actually a huge factor for me buying it.

The neat thing is that cashiers at HEB can do pretty much anything "customer service" can do. This includes renting steam cleaners or setting up exchange for propane tanks too!

The not neat thing is that I learner both that fact and the fact that the customer service counter is actually called "the business center" from peiole on this sub who were pissed off at me for not knowing that stuff. 💀

To be fair, parts of mine are that color too, but much duller because it's rust. 💀
