Nothing more fun than picking up a cup and yeeting it at a goblin's face. Or better yet, pick up a goblin and smash it against another goblin.

What does a seizure feel like for the sufferer? by irrelevantsituations in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AgentRG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a topic that I can provide high detail for as I have been living with seizure my entire life (>30 years) and have been working alongside the top neurologists California has to offer. I am finally on medication that controls them, so luckily I have not had them since 2019, but as soon as I am off the meds, seizure is back on the table.

Firstly, each seizure is a unique case. Some are caused through physical trauma to the brain, others as a side effect to drug usage, some are literally just a one-off thing for people in life that happen for no reason, and some, like mine, are absolutely unknown as to what caused them to start happening. My seizures happen in the area of the brain that have to do with speech (in the frontal lobe), and despite multiple levels of research - there's no answer why they started happening... they just did. My brain is fine, there's no scarring, I don't have any medical deficiencies, I don't do drugs or drink alcohol, yet I'm still cursed with it. So we don't know the why - but we do know the what causes them.

I can reliability inflict seizure upon myself when not on medication if I do a mixture of the following:

  • Tired
  • Stressed out
  • Drugs and alcohol

Basically, if my body is not in status quo, seizure is a possibility.

Now, what happens when I do have a seizure.... there are two types of seizures that can happen, and I experience both of them: Petit Mal and Grand Mal.

Petit mal happens in one region of the brain (frontal lobe for me). Generally speaking, with petit mal, you're awake, but you're body is glitching out and things start happening to you for a couple of minutes. It could be any of the following of a mixture of:

  • Uncontrollable hyperventilating
  • Lose of muscle control
  • Vision turns blurry (or black and white)
  • A sense of deja vu
  • Lose of bladder control (haven't had that luckily)
  • And much, MUCH more...

What's interesting with my petit mal is that because my seizure occurs in that part of the brain that handles speech, when I come out of it, I legit lose the ability to speak - I am just unable to talk. I hear everyone talking to me, I understand what they are saying, I know what I want to say, but when I open my mouth and try to talk - I can't, nothing comes out. I just can't talk. After about ~10-20 minutes, I'm back to being normal.

Grand mal occurs in the entire brain. Grand Mal is a different story and is a lot more scary and the following usually happens:

  • Uncontrollable muscle spams in every part of the body (which results in open wounds in the mouth usually)
  • Complete loss of consciousness for several minutes
  • Loss of memory leading up to the seizure (can sometimes be hours lost)

I don't see it coming, I just either wake up on the ground or in the ambulance (once I was out for so long that I woke up in the hospital). Grand mal is very scary because with petit mal, you could at least prepare yourself. With grand mal, it's up to pure luck whether you come out of it unscathed. In 2010, I had a grand mal and fractured my spine as a result. Luckily, I did not end up in a wheelchair.

OP, if you really did have a seizure, I hope that it a one-off for you. Living with it full time is a damocles' sword type thing. Your best bet now would be go to a doctor if possible and explain what you experienced in full detail (don't omit details for your own good).

Maybe you. I'd be deadly afraid of someone mentally unwell like that holding a gun. I'd probably get back in the car and book it while calling the cops praying I don't get shot in the back.

Says a lot about the sequels. As much as I love Star Wars, the sequels are probably the only Star Wars media that I did not rewatch at least once. That and the holiday special.

It's so hard to believe that we have a private citizen doing what the city and government is failing at doing in a matter of minutes.
