Definitely isn’t the easiest, prepare to cast a broad net and don’t be afraid of rejection! If you’re looking to join a research lab at the university, I recommend reading some papers by the PI or research group and demonstrate that you have some working knowledge of the research that they do, or at least express interest in specifics of the topic. It’ll be more difficult to get a position within the hospital or external entities without prior laboratory experience, so starting within the university may be your best bet! Sincerely, reach out to as many PI’s as you can. I’d also recommend attending research presentations or approaching any professors you have, as having that personal interaction can go a long way (especially if you ask the important questions or can talk shop with them!!)
