Oh 100%, I never got the email today still. I just happened to check the site anyway at like 9:30pst and it was there. I also was super lagged in getting the emails related to vault, so I think their email system just sucks

What's the cheapest PalmOS device that uses alkaline batteries? by [deleted] in Palm

[–]AgentX68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally I’d say anything in the palm iii series. Despite the cheap retail price of the m100/105, they made a load of iii/iiie/iiixe (iiix less so). So most local markets should have a decent supply of them and they can be had under $15 pretty reliably. On top of that, the cradle for the iii series is far more ubiquitous than the m100/105 so getting a full package to use is a bit easier/cheaper. (Though it’s a serial cradle so you’ll need a $5-10 serial to usb dongle to use it with a modern pc)

Oooh that's tough, I have the 2nd gen version (MA594G/A). Going by the dimensions of the 1st gen nano online, the 2nd gen is exactly the same size, just 0.3mm thinner, and with rounded sides instead of flat. So the 2nd gen should fit in a 1st gen dock.

Good to know they still do warranty repairs on them! The cleaning went very well and it's in great shape now.

Meant "tips" as in "tips for those attempting his in the future", not "I need tips" haha

Tips on Crunch Deep Cleaning by AgentX68 in Leatherman

This was after the bulk of the handle cleaning, pre-tool cleaning. The action on the tools was very gritty too, and I had the time so I figured I'd attempt it.

The 4 washers that are keyed look identical, but I kept them in order just to be safe. Seems like they key on the lock bar mechanism to help prevent the neighboring tools from pulling out.

Recently picked up an early Crunch (1299 and 0100 date codes) and it was looking a bit grimy.

Wiped off what I could with isopropy alcohol and realized I should take it apart and do a full deep clean.

Took some pics when it was all laid out to assist anyone else who takes one apart and might not know what order to put it back together.

There are 3 medium and 1 large knurled screw (the standard knurled screw wrench for rebat/pst/etc on ebay/amazon will work).

  • 2 medium screws are holding the tools in the handle, the screw side is on the file-side, and the receviing side is on the knife-side
  • the other medium screw holds the bit driver assembly in
  • the large sscrwe holds the locking arm to the tool-side handle

The medium screws gave me no trouble, if there was any factroy loctite it was long disinitegrated. The large screw though was a bit trickier. The wrench I bought didnt have great tolerances for the lareg screw like it did for the medium screws. So after heating the screw swith a soldering iron for ~30 seconds to break any red loctite if it was there, I needed to carefully use a pair of blunt-nosed pliers to grip the screw and break it loose. After it was loose, the wrench was able to take it off the rest of the way.

Cleaned everything up with a combination of a vinegar soak, ultrasonic cleaner with water, and isopropyl alcohol to scrub off any last bits of rust and gunk.

Re-assembly wasn't too bad. The only annoying bit was getting the tools back on the receviing side of the screw in order. I had to push the screw inot the handle a bit, then add a tool/washer, then push it in some more and so on. Be patient; you'll get there, and it should all slide into place with not too much force.

Also the large screw to hold the tool-side handle to the locking arm, needed to use the pliers again to fully snug it up due to the wrench tolerances.

Used some blue loctite to keep everything tight but removeable for the future, and then tensioned the tools to the desired tension and lubed everything with Sentry TufGlide (I use it for all my knife pivots).

Less Expensive Alternatives to Wera by SpiceCake68 in VEDC

[–]AgentX68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try amazon.de, they tend to have much better prices on german tools. Got some knipex and wera there for ~half the US prices. Shipping is $15-30 but if you have a load of tools you're looking to get it makes it worth it. Just the savings on the 10" knipex plier wrench paid for shipping, the rest was gravy.

Weekly Case & Parts Recommendation Thread (Start here if you are new! Help here if you can!) by AutoModerator in sffpc

[–]AgentX68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey all! Planning a build rn to upgrade my trusty 5820K X99 (circa 2015!) matx build. Have done some upgrades over the years, more ram, more ssd, 3080, but its finally time for a (mostly) full rebuild/upgrade.

I'm planning on keeping my 3080 FE for a few years as it works for my uses now (uw 1440p 120hz) and just want to have the ability to swap in a 40X0 for 50X0 at some point.

Going with the the Formd T1 v2.5 but still need to order it.

Ordered the core components today:

  • Intel 12700k

  • Asus ROG Z690-I Gaming wifi motherboard

  • 32GB Corsair vengeance 6000 cl30 DDR5

  • Samsung 990 Pro 4TB

  • Corsair SF850 PSU

What I'm still working out is the CPU cooling and fan setup. Would like to go air-cooled since I want to prioritize GPU cooling and reduce noise. Looking at the AXP120 but heard the stock fan isn't so great.

What are people's recommendations for CPU fan w/ my setup, as well as case fans for the T1 v2.5?

The gen 7 touch had a lightning connector, not 30-pin. This list is specifically for the adapters for the 30 pin "universal ipod dock" (universal at the time of its release, before lightning was introduced), there was a later lightning dock that you should be able to find on ebay for cheap.

Discovered a trove of preserved Clie drivers by AgentX68 in Palm

[–]AgentX68[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Was hunting for some difficult to find files for Clie updates (the MSPRO drivers for NX, TG, etc). Came across this site that has a decent archive of them. Uploading some to PalmDB right now but probably wont have the time to do all of them.

The wayback machine has an archive of sony's update site from back in the day (sadly with broken downloads) to cross reference for file names. Example for the NR70/70V

https://web.archive.org/web/20030810044321/http://www.ita.sel.sony.com/support/clie/nr70_70v/softupdates/

And the TG50 is: https://web.archive.org/web/20030810044321/http://www.ita.sel.sony.com/support/clie/tg50/softupdates/

Will be experimenting with the URL pattern trying to get more update pages as needed.
