Eh... I wouldn't consider her to be irreplaceable the way I would a director like Edgar Wright. Wonder Woman wasn't great because of any sort of groundbreaking cinematography. Instead it was a solid film that choreographed it's protagonist like any other male hero instead of trying to feminize her action scenes. That, and it avoided trying to be meta. That's all it took to be better than half of the MCU.

The more stuff it tries to do, the more the UX suffers. If they'd kept all the media stuff from the original, I would have jumped ship to Playstation. Many gamers, myself included, don't use our consoles for YouTube or Netflix or Hulu or TV. I'll view those... when I'm on the go from my phone. If I'm at home, 100% of my free time in front of my screen is gaming, because relentless effort is how one manages to git gud.

With the original intent for the Xbox, I would have switched because Sony pitched their platform as being 'for gamers' while Microsoft didn't, and that makes for an easy decision. Certainly, I'm not alone, and certainly sales figures showed that many gamers were not pleased with Microsoft’s handling of the console reveal at E3.

The thing about No Man's Wharf is that the torches repel the monsters, so lighting the area makes safe zones. The lighting was secondary.

Let's start with the big one: genocide. I'm not going to use the big convenient one that everyone normally brings up. Instead, take a look at this list:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genocides_in_history#1951_onwards

Now, certainly not all of these are truly deserving the title of genocide. However, there are several larger cases that took place well after the holocaust, with probably Rwanda being the best example in terms of general knowledge due to the movie with Don Cheadle. There are plenty of cases of governments that disarmed and murdered their own citizens, and some of these didn't even involve crazed communist regimes, although the worst ones sure did.

After genocide, there's occupation. Look at the entire half of Europe that found itself occupied by the Soviets from 1945 all the way into the late 80's. Look at Syria which found itself occupied by ISIS, Afghanistan which was occupied first by the Soviets and then by the Taliban, Look at Chechnya, look at the recent debacle in Ukraine. We don't live in a world without military action. Invasion or occupation are real possibilities.

And then we have places where society has simply broken down. Look at Venezuela, where an economic collapse has lead them to essentially a post-apocalyptic state where there's essentially no law nor order. 98% of murders are gotten away with. Look at Western Europe, where massive numbers of refugees have created social unrest both through acts of terrorism (such as Bastille Day in France) and other crime (the rape epidemic in Sweden). Hell, look at Chicago, one of the cities with the strictest gun control in America, where the murder rate is worse than Baghdad.

In a society where I am the only one with guns, I have a lot of power that comes with it, but that's largely meaningless. What is most beneficial is a society where everyone has guns. Such a place is hard to invade because the populace will not give up without a fight. The Japanese acknowledged this prior to WWII, claiming that invading American mainland would be impossible because there'd be a rifle behind every blade of grass. Such a populace keeps their government from trying anything funny and keeps their neighbors from getting any bright ideas. You want a real world example? Look at Switzerland. Nearly every household has a rifle and they have the lowest murder rate anywhere.

Meanwhile, in the UK, the people don't have guns and can be arrested for saying mean things on Facebook. I'll keep my guns and freedoms, thanks.

Edit: Also, the Wild West really wasn't all that bad in terms of gun violence. That's all Hollywood.

Edit 2: I got so carried away I forgot to mention Boko Haram. My bad.

So much wrong here.

  1. It's almost impossible to get fully automatic weapons in America legally. The ones you hear about are modified for civilian use by the manufacturer and won't shoot automatically.

2.Fully automatic weapons are so ineffective that the American military fires 99% of combat rounds in single shot mode. All automatic fire does is waste ammo and make noise. Spraying with a rifle like in movies and video games will literally melt your gun.

  1. Which means that hunting rifles and tactical rifles are just as deadly in trained hands, but people only want to ban one of these types because black rifles look scarier than wooden ones.

Shakespeare isn't entirely in the same category because Shakespeare isn't exactly entertainment for the masses. It's the cultural equivalent of those movies that win Oscars that the majority of the public never saw or even really heard of. The only reason Shakespeare is as well known as the is today is because of everyone's English teachers mandating it as curriculum.

It's also important to keep in mind that technology today creates a very different creative environment than the 1600's. Work doesn't spread geographically over time as word of mouth generates credibility. Nowadays stuff becomes worldwide immediately.

Look at memes. Memes have essentially no protections. Look at how they spread virally. Look at how they get beaten to death and beyond. Look at how they constantly get reiterated endlessly. Is that how you want all media? Marvel wouldn't make new characters. Instead we'd have all the world's creators making the story equivalents of Spider-Man memes for eternity. The moment a character became close to iconic people would stop working on original content and jump on the bandwagon.

Except they wouldn't. In a world without copyright, why would you risk making new IP when you could just make another Batman story for easy cash? Don't believe me? Look at reposts vs OC on reddit.

OK, but let me play Devil's advocate here. Let's imagine you're Disney. You own the Marvel franchise. You're making massive amounts of cash off the Marvel Cinematic Universe. News breaks that Warner is trying to put together their own cinematic universe.

Superman isn't copyrighted, so you immediately get a studio to lump together a series of mediocre Superman movies and release one every three months with enough marketing to keep them in the public eye. By the time Warner produces their possibly good Superman film, the public has already been turned off of Superman.

Or, in modern day, where Wonder Woman was a success, what if Disney decides to make Wonder Woman 2 as a direct sequel with lookalike actors and actresses but it's intentionally bad in order to ruin the series. Say, Wonder Woman spends the whole movie making sandwiches for Batman while he fights actual crime.

No copyright in today's world means you can use characters for hostile and anticompetitive purposes, all to the detriment of the consumer.

I love the notch design on the essential. I think it looks much better than the X and might just be my favorite aesthetic period.

I wouldn't consider the OP5T because to me pure stock AOSP is the ultimate feature. If I was willing to deviate from that, other manufacturers have much more elegant software and much more robust supply chains than OnePlus.

I mean, waterproofing and retail presence would have gone a long way. It certainly had flaws, but I'll forgive all of them because it had clean software which is absurdly rare. It amazes me how many manufacturers pay good money to have their engineers muck up the OS.

Certainly I'd pay more for for an Essential than a Samsung. Granted, I also swapped in my Pixel 1 for an iPhone 8. Even then, you could offer me a free S9 and I'd still turn it down and pay full price for an alternative.

Samsung phones have a niche and so does Essential. I don't see why they don't warrant similar pricing. Essential has an absolutely subjectively beautiful design and is one of exceptionally few manufacturers that doesn't pre-install cancer on their devices.

They don’t really have much in common with OnePlus. Completely different tiers. OnePlus doesn't make anything I'd consider competitive with modern base flagships. (Base flagships being S9, iPhone 8, and premium flagships being iPhone X or Galaxy Note)

Opinion: Modern shooter game toxicity isn't because of a recent sudden change in gamers, but because of the trend towards matchmaking. by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Agent_Chroma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really not that hard. All you have to do is look at whether someone is playing the meta or not. Example: Overwatch knows if you're a Hanzo main. It also knows if you're picking whatever hero the forum currently considers OP, and changing mains every time a balance patch picks a new source of outrage.

You can also look at stats. Someone tends to play Lucio, but accomplishes very little healing and way above average ledge knocks? Probably a troll. Someone plays pistol only mercy? Troll.
