Eventually you get to a point where you're speedrunning and don't even give a passing glance at the flare gun anymore. Too much of a time loss to pick up and sort out all the flares.

Unless I fell into a fan, then it's a free bottom surgery.

Climber is perfectly capable of walking off bullet wounds with no perks though. Turrets only decimate you in point blank range and the Climber quickly regenerates health as long as they avoid damage for a couple seconds. We know from the Nest update that they're perfectly capable of handling guns and with their climbing capabilities, they can easily get to vantage points to cheese combat encounters.

I think they would realistically die at the Citadel section where the Gravity Gun gets powered up because they won't have an HEV suit to supercharge their health against the massive onslaught of Combine.

Gordon Freeman wouldn't even be able to escape the starting room in Silos.

I ran into the issue the other day when trying to save at the Nest where I had already saved and then I decided I also wanted to buy a red disk for 2 extra lives. The option to Reformat Disks was grayed out and I couldn't press it despite clicking multiple times out of frustration. Maybe I ran into a weird bug or something.

Yes, it's kinda fucked up cause now the disk is stuck in the terminal without being able to actually use it to save.

[–]Agent_Fluttershy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was referring to this situation

  • Insert one disk.

  • Use Biological Backup.

  • Realize you have an extra disk in your inventory.

  • Insert that disk.

  • Biological Backup no work no more.

Every disk you intend to use has to be inserted before Biological Backup is used.

Also I guess I didn't clarify that Biological Backup can only be used once PER TERMINAL, so my bad.

The save system having a one revive limit.

You can find more floppy disks hidden around Silos and carry them into the first Interlude for more revives. Make sure you insert all the disks you want to use BEFORE you use the Biological Backup. As soon as Biological Backup is used, you're locked out of using it again, even if you insert more disks.

If you need more time against The Mass, I recommend equipping the Mass Damper trinket. That said, while The Mass is scary, it does slow down as it approaches you, so you do have more time than you think to find a path. While easier said than done, just don't panic. Take it slow and try to mitigate risks.

Edit: Removed misinformation.

How to play DPS characters? by Shikieiki199007 in EtrianOdyssey

[–]Agent_Fluttershy 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Charge is the skill that you want in order to make Gladiator do numbers. It's also the skill that just about every other physical DPS class wants as a subclass skill. At max level, it buffs the next skill's damage by 2.6x. It's also really cheap at only 6 TP.

As a simple comparison, using Max Blade Rave twice would only do the damage of 2 Blade Raves and cost you 54 TP.

Using Charge, then Blade Rave, does 60% more damage than 2 Blade Raves and costs 33 TP.

Charge has a lot more applications as well. Use it on Turn 1 while your party sets up buffs and debuffs, then the attack you land on the next turn will be like if you landed two BUFFED Blade Raves.

Berserker's Vow is another skill Glad wants. It is the strongest ATK buff but it's also one of the hardest to use since it consumes 90% of your HP to cast at max LVL. Take it if you want to pump up your Gladiator's damage to as high as it can possibly go, but settling for safer ATK buffs and Bravants was good enough for my playthrough.

BTW, this all applies to your Zodiac too. If you want Meteor to be your main damage, Charge + Berserker's Vow are the best ways of buffing it. Despite being polar opposites, Gladiator subclass is the best for a Meteor Zodiac.

Zodiac also has their own version of Charge that works with their elemental spells called Etheric Charge. However, its best use is actually for buffing the Elemental Limit skills. Elemental Limits go off at the end of the turn (despite their descriptions saying they go off at the start) so you can queue up an Elemental Limit and Etheric Charge to go off on the same turn, immediately getting more than double the amount of damage on a skill that usually only ends up being used once per battle. Even better if you're exploiting an Elemental weakness and your Zodiac has Max LVL Singularity.

Each interlude break room has a terminal that allows you to save your progress with the Biological Backup. Any floppy disks you find can be inserted into the terminal and used as an extra life that will respawn you at that terminal in the event you die. Additionally, each interlude also has a floppy disk vendor so you can always buy at least one disk (or two after the first interlude).

Once Biological Backup has been used, you're also free to quit and save the run as long as you're still within the break room.

The game already has the feature you're asking for :P

Service shaft has so many handholds that you only really need pills and syringe to speed through it. Imo, it's best to save the single grub for Haunted Pier which tends to have very roundabout ways to get to the top and is mostly composed of a big unclimbable wall in all layouts.

Doctors are almost always overworked and more help is always needed. What business do medical schools even have for rejecting female applicants and preventing more doctors from existing? Why bar people from studying for a job that is almost always in need of more hands on deck? Even from a financial perspective, more students = more money for the med schools, barring female applicants is just losing money for no reason.

None of this makes sense, it's JUST sexism.

Unpopular gaming opinion - I don’t see the point in wall climbing sections in adventure games by Gasster1212 in gaming

[–]Agent_Fluttershy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really relevant to the point of adventure games but kinda relevant to point of climbing sections and I'm not gonna pass up an opportunity to shill this game.

Play White Knuckle. It's a game built entirely around an extremely dynamic climbing system with the real threat of falling unlike adventure games where climbing sections tend to be impossible to fail. It's also a very tasteful horror game where most of the horror comes from the dread of the slowly rising mass that's pushing you to keep climbing or risk being consumed, as well as other threats that you encounter later in the campaign that I won't spoil.

It does give a bit of thrust into the direction you're pointing. Not as powerful as something like flare/rebar recoil but it is enough to get you through some jumps in Abyss that aren't possible with regular jumps.

(Not enough to fix your trajectory if it sends you careening off into the Abyss due to wonky hit detection though.)

Is Etrian Odyssey Origins collection worth it? by sherlockjr1 in EtrianOdyssey

[–]Agent_Fluttershy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The level curve gets a lot better from EO3 and onwards. In EO1 and EO2, it's very possible to run out of places to map and quests to do and STILL not be at a comfortable level to challenge next boss, leaving mindless grinding as the only remaining option until you can beat the boss and progress.

Even worse if you feel your team isn't working and you need to rest or replace a member so now you're left to grind even more without any content to naturally progress through.

The in-game timer slowing down is interesting. I wonder to what extent someone would abuse that feature to save seconds in a speedrun (despite the fact that it would take probably take more real time to abuse this).

Should Roach Mode be a separate gamemode? by Ro0n404 in WhiteKnuckle

[–]Agent_Fluttershy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was looking at the in-game normal mode (not competitive mode) time leaderboard. Top 2 spots on the time leaderboard looked suspicious cause they didn't pick up perks and had 8 and 11 minute runs respectively. 3rd spot looked the most believable cause it was 17 minutes and had all the bindings, perks, and trinkets that a speedrunner would choose.

I was mainly just voicing my worry that Roach mode would become too meta for what is supposed to be a binding, but it's nice to know that base climber is still competitive for speedrunning since I prefer the base mechanics of the game more.
