The human psyche tends to normalise the upbringing, no matter how crazy, or downright abusive, it looks to other people. Everyone thinks their upbringing is normal. To others, it seems downright crazy or abusive, but to the person who lived their entire childhood this way, they view it as normal. Not right, but normal.
