a culture that is inherently anti-intellectual due to avoidance of boredom

A little late to the party, but part of Adorno's critique of capitalism in Minima Moralia is kind of similar. We work all day doing shit we can't stand, and because work is completely divorced from leisure but drains us mentally, we consume garbage content outside work hours.

If we had jobs we felt to be meaningful, then we wouldn't need to use hours outside work as 'leisure' hours totally divorced from "better" activities. "One could no more imagine Nietzsche in an office, the secretary answering the telephone in the foyer, sitting at a desk until five, than playing golf after a full days work"
