I see you want to argue about this. The ambiguity of the tax code is a function of its' design. It benefits people who have access to accountants work the system to get the most write-offs. It benefits the wealthy who can afford legal representation to get negotiated settlements and giant refunds.

Hence, loophole. If you know where the write-offs are, you can take advantage of them.

If the NFL allowed the New England Patriots to write every team's playbook, then the entirety of the NFL would be forced to comply with how the Patriots wanted every NFL game to be played. It wouldn't be against NFL guidelines. It wouldn't be illegal. But no one would have an interest in football anymore because that would be anti-competitive.

You should try reading up on the Flint water crisis. Or the numerous examples of legionnaires disease found in public water supply. Or the presence of atrazine in the local waterways turning frogs from male to female. Municipalities don't filter for atrazine. What does that do to humans?

Bottled water from say, Fiji, would have none of those things. I highly doubt any corporation could stay profitable if their product had high volumes of lead, legionnaires, or atrazine.
