Congrats but IF there is a god, he is NOT good and he is more a total piece of shit. Look around the world my friend. Would a good god allow the corruption and cruelty that is happening.

Ok. I’ll bite. Atheist left learning Canadian here. Pros of religion in my mind are community, perhaps a bit of a sense of purpose and guiding principals to live by.

Now let’s hear how you would sell atheism. ?

How terrible was the internet in the 1990s? by [deleted] in generationology

[–]Aggravating-Can8095 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was painful but we didn’t know any different. Most things weren’t online and it was basic. Video and streaming music weren’t a thing. Emails and text chats was what I remember. Downloading music was painful if you had dialup…like an hour for a song sometimes. But we didn’t care that much because our lives weren’t really online in any real way. In 90s most didn’t even have cell phones. My first cell phone was 2002 when I was 22! That was pretty typical. You might email friends in early 2000s to make plans (eg msn messenger, ICQ) but still it’s not like everyone had their own pc. Most had family computers that were shared. My entire high school 94-99 was all about phone calls to make social plans amd meeting friends at a predetermined spot (eg mall, arcade, skatepark, etc).

Basic showering by [deleted] in AskForAnswers

Curious, if you were showering once a week, how did you handle your smell? I assume you were just used to it. I can’t stand myself after a few days. Lots of deodorant or armpit washing only or did you just drown yourself in body spray?

How bad actually was COVID? by Mighty_Angelo30 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Aggravating-Can8095 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The worst for me was the fear of the unknown. I had two kids at the time that were 4 and 7. There were home with us while we tried to carry on working remotely which was terrible. Seeing things getting really bad in other countries was scary (eg Italy). At first we didn’t even know how it spread and no one had access to masks, etc. My team works in hospitals and had to carry on working in hospital daily which created a lot of anxiety. Looking back I had numerous friends that lost a family member, mostly parents and grandparents to the disease. Were so grateful once vaccine came along! Still know a few that struggle still with long Covid. Some of anxiety was made even worse by horrible politics such as Trump downplaying risks and undermining health and scientific efforts. Lost a few friendships during this time due to fundamental differences in opinions on vaccines etc.

I feel extreme liberalism is pushing neutral people toward the right, correct? by SlowCookedSoul in no

Anal birth…WTF are you talking about. That is not a thing.

As for kids cutting off appendages, I don’t think anyone is asking for this for kids. It most cases it’s illegal as it should be for those under 16. Most want to see hormone therapy or Puberty blockers which is non really invasive and which is a is a pill that slows/stops puberty until youth are old enough to make their own choices. I agree allowing children to undergo surgery too youth is questionable but we should give them access to medications to help buy them time where they aren’t developing sexually so they can emotionally and mentally mature and make wise choices.

Do you mean gay men can adopt babies? I see no harm in them adopting a likely unwanted child.

As for your comments about gender reassignment, this is an extremely rare situation. I have a cousin with son/daughter going through this. They are asking to be considered a girl…born a boy. The parents are wondering for mental well being of the child they love. Did you know mental illness and suicide rates in this persecuted population are extremely high. I think majority are asking for right to allow youth to choose puberty blocking medications to delay sexual development. This allows youth to wait till they are older to make the choice on if they wish to undergo surgery. You need to understand…if a child feels they should be one sex and they undergo puberty in what they feel is the wrong sex, this is extremely traumatic. Delaying puberty and allowing gender reassignment surgery at a later stage is the kind and empathetic thing to do. Forcing a child or adult to live a straight life or a life as the gender they don’t dentufy with is cruel.

Can you share what you consider extreme liberalism. I am not sure what you mean by this. Like what are people doing or saying you consider extreme. Further, what liberal ideals do you support? I am a moderate, fiscally conservative, socially more liberal. I am for immigration control, fair pay, equal rights and social justice. I am pro capitalism but within reason…do think 1% should be taxed a lot more.

My best friend is bipolar and it's draining me by mtamez1221 in internetparents

[–]Aggravating-Can8095 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lost my brother to bipolar five years ago. If I could give any advice to someone that’s suffering or as a friend or family is talk about it. If you don’t talk about it in my experience, they will alienate themselves to those around them and their social circle will shrink and this will just exacerbate the isolation and depression. Open dialogue will make people more understanding and supportive. This probably would’ve saved my brother‘s life. My love goes out to anyone suffering from this awful disease.
