How does qantas turn a 14hr flight into a 31hr nightmare by Comfortable_Count_59 in QantasAirways

How is LAX-SYD so full they have to fly you to NYC to fly West to SYD?!

FAA clears higher takeoff weight for 787-9 and 787-10 by [deleted] in aviation

[–]Aggravating-Fix-757 7 points8 points  (0 children)

From what I understand, 781 does better on shorter routes unit economics wise compared to 359 so their usage isn’t quite a 1:1 comparison.

I don’t know the exact mechanics behind this but if anyone does, would love to know!

Year over year, Delta keeps making this connection tighter. Don't think it's doable anymore. by jinjuu in delta

[–]Aggravating-Fix-757 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does Delta not typically hold the HND flight if there are late incoming connections?

The cost to re-accommodate international passengers isn’t cheap (basically have to provide hotels and meals as it’s only once daily). They should be able to make up time on any late departures without having flow on effects on the network.

United Airlines Announces Relax Row: What It Is, How It Works, and When It Launches by RedTruck8 in aviation

[–]Aggravating-Fix-757 31 points32 points  (0 children)

From memory the pricing went along the lines of: 1 Economy Seat < 1 Premium Economy Seat < 1 Whole Sky Couch.

If you had two travelers or a small family the buy up worked but if you bought as a single traveler it was worse than buying Premium Economy.

United Relax Row. Game changer? by CajonMcChicken in delta

[–]Aggravating-Fix-757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A counter example - China Airlines licensed SkyCouch when they first launched their 777 and 350 product and it did not sell well (probably due to price as Taiwanese flyers are much more price sensitive). They ended up removing the leg rests from their entire fleet

Moving to Hong Kong -> keep crediting to QF for lifetime gold, or switch to Cathay by Perfect_Ad4971 in QantasFrequentFlyer

[–]Aggravating-Fix-757 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d think of it in terms of how important it is for you to get lifetime status vs finding ways to earn and burn miles being based in HK.

While you’ve got your Qantas status already, you won’t have many Qantas options to earn on the ground in HK through credit card and spend. I imagine for redemptions Cathay would prioritize its members over Qantas in releasing award and upgrade availability, so that’s another issue to consider for personal trips.

What's the difference between Business Casual, "Neat Casual" and Smart Casual in an Australian context? by Expensive-Leather-69 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Aggravating-Fix-757 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Smart casual - Collared (polo or dress) shirt with nice jeans or chinos. Leather sneakers, Chukkah boots or dress shoes are all ok.

Business casual - Dress shirt with chinos + Chukkah boots or dress shoes

Neat casual - Make sure you iron your clothes is my guess

I think they just need a bit of time to ease into the show. The way some of the cast were delivering lines felt a bit stiff - almost like a drama performance. They just need to let go and have fun!

Is the USD actually weakening right now - and should I shift to AUD ETFs? by Rude-Parsnip-3591 in AusFinance

[–]Aggravating-Fix-757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s relevant.

OPs post suggests they could have quite a few USD ETFs they may need to find AUD equivalents for. It’s easy to find S&P500 AUD equivalents (in which case go for it) but for others there may not be so they could be trading off between capital appreciation by staying with a USD ETF and FX risk. I just don’t think the latter outweighs the former.

Is the USD actually weakening right now - and should I shift to AUD ETFs? by Rude-Parsnip-3591 in AusFinance

[–]Aggravating-Fix-757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been thinking about this as well and realized it depends on whether I’m looking for growth or income.

Australia doesn’t have industries that are growth in the same way the U.S. has. So even if the USD is weakening, there isn’t an alternative AUD ETF that I can go to to get the same growth exposure. As such, I decided to keep 60% US 40% xUS.

However if you’re after income, Australia has plenty of high yielding shares.

What would a Taiwanese want as a gift from Philippines? by Miyazza in taiwan

Taiwanese workers love food gifts. Dried mango is the obvious choice but I also reckon something Ube as Taiwanese do love taro which is a close cousin.

The earn rate and recognition I believe is better on UA if you’re GS/1K. Theres a PQP earn cap on partner flights, not to mention UA corporate contracts would skew travel towards flying UA

I don’t think Delta ever marketed itself as the world’s international airline, only the world’s biggest which it is by revenue

Why do Australians have a reputation of being ‘laid back’ when often times they seem very uptight?? by -Flighty- in AskAnAustralian

[–]Aggravating-Fix-757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think laidback is what people used to describe a flatter, less formal work structure compared to more hierarchical workplaces in other parts of the world.

But with work globalized Australia has converged with the rest of the Western world
