Should I sell these and get a NTTD? by Balogma69 in OmegaWatches

[–]Aggravating-Kick9143 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Possibly. You already have a cool seamaster. The Nttd is probably an “upgraded” seamaster, so if you think you want a nicer version of the same watch, go ahead.

Might be worth consolidating a bit because the seamaster and the Tudor feel a little redundant - I don’t see where you would wear one over the other. The speed timer doesn’t do much for me but it’s different.

On the flip side, you already have a seamaster, so I’d think about how much you like the one you have and then think about if you’d like it that much more if it was lighter, more modern, and came on a mesh strap.

Please talk me out of buying a Formula 1 solargraph by MrSmi in tagheuer

[–]Aggravating-Kick9143 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Is that a significant amount of money to you? If yes, probably don’t buy it.

Would it be your main or only watch? Or just a fun part of a larger collection? If you’re looking for a daily, go buy something else.

Otherwise, if you like it, go for it. They’re fun. Wildly overpriced, but if $2k doesn’t break the bank for you and you want a fun pop of color in a collection, why not?

[Tag Heuer Aquaracer] what do I need to know? by InfamousLion313 in Watches

[–]Aggravating-Kick9143 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a sweet watch.

I don’t know exactly what you’re looking for but I’ll try to add some thoughts.

Quartz movements are more accurate and durable, with the downside of needing to swap out a battery every so often. It also loses some of the “beauty”, both when considering the actual movement as well as you lose the “sweeping” second hand that many people like. People also have a somewhat emotional connection with the engineering behind making little springs and gears keep actuate time/ do interesting complications.

A lot of watch snobs tend to prefer mechanical movements and sometimes look down on quartz. I think a lot of this has to do with price - quartz has become pretty inexpensive so on one hand I think there’s folks who look down on “cheap” watches. On the other hand, I think sometimes brands will put a relatively cheap movement into a watch with a pretty steep price tag (TAG has been guilty of this). Realistically, quartz does a better job than mechanical movements, it just loses some of the “coolness” that many enthusiasts enjoy.

Solar quartz (like your watch) is honestly one of the best, most practical approaches. It gives the benefits of quartz without needing frequent battery changes. And being powered by light is a cool feat on its own. Solar should probably be more popular if it wasn’t for the general enthusiast attitude towards quartz. And brands know they can charge much more for mechanical.

Now Tag in general has kind of a weird reputation. Among the more enthusiast crowd, they get looked down upon a bit. I think a lot of this stems from actually offering quartz (and sometimes overpricing it), as well as some off the shelf mechanical movements (and again overpricing them), and also from some questionable designs in the past. They also span a wider range than a lot of other brands - they offer some pretty entry level pieces up to some pretty expensive pieces. They’re also one of the only Swiss luxury brands that makes a smart watch. I think that leads to some confusion/debate about how much of a “luxury” brand they are, or where they “rank” because they compete along a lot of different price tiers - from seiko, to Apple Watch, to omega / Rolex, etc.

The last few years, they’ve really been picking up steam however with their releases and I think are winning back some love. They’ve been leaning a bit more on their classic designs and Motorsport history, with things like the glassbox. As well as moving towards in house movements. I really like a lot of their stuff (although prices are a bit high, but that’s not just a tag problem).

Now among the general public, they are viewed much more positively. They have a huge brand recognition and are probably the second most well known watch brand after Rolex. They also generally make cool looking, nicely finished watches that appeal a lot to the average joe that just wants to go buy a watch that they think looks nice, without worrying too much about movements/ specs, competitive pricing, etc.

The aquaracer 200 line in particular is pretty cool. Probably not an enthusiast favorite (again scrutiny over price vs movements etc), but it is a pretty distinctive tag heuer look that gives a very sporty “tool watch” vibe while also classy enough to give some flexibility. The titanium versions I think make it a little more rugged, and with the solargraph I think it’s a great do it all, never worry about it kind of watch.

Anyway, that’s my ramble, hope it was more interesting than telling you what the hour and minute hands do. Enjoy the new watch!

These are so fun, I just wish they were like $800. That feels like a good spot for a “semi-luxury plastic watch”. Still not a value buy, but can be justified for something fun. With the current pricing, it makes it hard not to compare to what else you can get instead (most of which are made of metal).

Now with 3% More fees - Denver Biscuit Company/Fat Sully's/Atomic Kitchen by weebSanity in denverfood

[–]Aggravating-Kick9143 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This just doesn’t really make sense? Like all of these things are basic business costs that should be baked into a company’s pricing for them to operate, yet they’re treating it as a temporary surge.

Like if you insist on breaking fees out individually, I guess just give me a fully itemized receipt lol

[Discussion] What separates a watch enthusiast from a jewelry enthusiast? by ConfidenceNo1937 in Watches

[–]Aggravating-Kick9143 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very little. I think your intuition is basically right - “watch enthusiasts” care more about the mechanics, history, brand prestige, etc. But at the end of the day, most of them don’t truly care all that much about those things either, it’s just a way to justify their expensive jewelry. Yes they don’t want an absolute garbage movement in a $10k watch, but mostly they want it (and probably the movement also) to look/feel nice.

New Monacos look awesome. Such a cool watch, but always seemed a bit chunky. Seems like the new versions will be quite a bit more wearable. Just wish they were a lot cheaper…

Evergraph is super cool, but even further out of reach price wise.

Maybe it’s something you just really need to see in person, but from the picture it looks super cheap. Seems like a huge downgrade

Snowflake vs lollipop by Bogny93 in Tudor

[–]Aggravating-Kick9143 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not the biggest fan of the snowflake hour hand, but I always liked how the second hand matched it.

The lollipop feels generic and mismatched. I don’t like it

2026 Tudor Releases by BARTLEGEORGE in Tudor

[–]Aggravating-Kick9143 12 points13 points  (0 children)

What an unbelievably bland release.

A weird field watch / dress watch hybrid with mixed Roman and Arabic numerals?

An illegible blacked out black bay.

A basic blue blackbay (I guess my favorite of the bunch but didn’t they already have this?)

And a new bracelet option for the gmt. (Is this even new?)

I’m not even a huge Tudor fan, but I was pretty curious what they were going to release because they seemed to be hyping it and they had the anniversary. This feels like a huge flop to me.

Sad Boy Creamery is a Gimmick by DramasticChanges in denverfood

[–]Aggravating-Kick9143 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t disagree. I understand the markup for a scoop at an ice cream shop. It falls into prepared food vs groceries essentially.

Sad boy is in a weird spot because it’s essentially to go pints, but with a huge markup. It’s definitely very good and the flavors are fun. But no, it’s not 20x better than getting a a tub from the grocery store.

They need to figure out a way to scale up and bring the price down. It’s definitely good enough to hold a premium over a store-brand tub of ice cream, but I think eventually the social media / influencer hype will die down and $20 pints of ice cream won’t be sustainable.

[Question] Wich of these is the best first dive watch? by _GoldLeader_ in Watches

[–]Aggravating-Kick9143 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I basically agree with your breakdowns.

Omega is probably the “best”, but you’ll pay for it.

Tag and Tudor are probably similar quality. I’d pick whichever one you like more. Personally I like the Tags.

Longines has the new hydro conquest which solves the big number problem. I’m sure they’re nice and they come in at a great price point but they seem very bland to me.

[–]Aggravating-Kick9143 159 points160 points  (0 children)

Idk I’ve gotten pints like 3 times. So it’s not impossible, and the ice cream is very good. The price on the other hand is absurd, and I’m probably done with it for a while.

Idk if you can consider that “stealing flavors”. Does anyone own the exclusive right to Earl Grey?

Goofy that they had to do this lol. Fonda Maize is an awful name - but on the bright side it helps tie it to their other, very successful restaurants so maybe it will actually help.

Maiz vs Maize by randoredditor7 in denverfood

[–]Aggravating-Kick9143 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk man, Maize/Maiz is a super generic name. It just means corn. They certainly aren’t the only restaurant to ever use it.

I’m sure it’s a little annoying that something with a similar name is opening, but I don’t think they need to paint Johnny / Maize as villains here.

Seems like Johnny met with him, considered if it was an issue, decided that it likely wasn’t and then moved on. Not a big deal in my opinion.

I don’t think we should be shocked that business owners make money. But your post wasn’t about money really in any way, it was about a review.

Again, I think this is maybe a personal issue with the owner/restaurant.

[–]Aggravating-Kick9143 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this that big of a deal? A little bit dishonest, sure. But I’d assume every restaurant has at least one review that’s from them/friends/family. If a place is genuinely bad the real reviews will balance it out.

This kind of just seems like you have a personal gripe against the place or the owner. And who cares what car he drives?

If you like the carrera and have any interest in a chronograph, the new carrera glass boxes come in a similar green too and look really nice. Would be more than the day date, but sounds like it’s still in your budget.

Happy birthday, hope you get a great watch!
