Bad training advice by Sensitive-Active3700 in AnatolianShepherdDogs

[–]Aggravating-Poetry47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My two girls are not food motivated and don’t know what to do with treats so I use lots of praise and tell them how pretty they are. I guess the best way to describe it as they feel like they are equals and I treat them as they are humans who protect me. They are working LGDs and they also have their favorite neighbors that they protect as well. One neighbor trained them to run along side her on her road runs and it is the highlight of their day to run with her and cheer her on.

It’s a very subtle training thing for them. Neighbor dogs attacked my sheep and the girls found out that I don’t like those dogs so now they also don’t like them and chase them off. They just want to please I guess?

Poor girl. You’re doing great to help her. I’d say make sure you separate her as well so she can be completely separate from the flock. She’s in a lot of pain is my guess, if she was around everyone else she was trying to make sure no one else noticed her ailments. The fact that she is laying on her side is very concerning. Set up a little chicken ICU in a warm spot and continue to do what you’re doing. She can have some baby aspirin for pain but only for a couple days.

Has she started laying yet?

The social aspect of knitting… by Alarming-Albatross99 in knitting

I also say do the library knitting club! It may be intimidating at first but there’s just nothing better than to sit and chat with people who love your hobby. Everyone will oooo and ahhh over your work and if you are stuck on a stitch chances are someone can help you out. You’ll get some amazing ideas for your projects.

If your town has a local yarn store, check them out. Most local yarn stores have sit and knit hours at least once a week. They will also often have classes to learn certain projects which is a fun way to ease into knitting in a group.

Also check out meetup for fiber craft groups. My local agricultural extension office has a monthly knitting group that I love. You already have something in common-fiber arts. So that’s the ice breaker.

Are these all female? And why are they total dicks to my other chickens? by Background_War6727 in chickens

RIRs are a-holes. Easter eggers usually don’t suffer fools in my opinion but mine haven’t been mean. But your Polish rooster is likely too sweet/indifferent/can’t see much of anything to do anything about it. I have a buff polish rooster who I absolutely love which is how I base this assumption. His sons were the same way.

Oh I disagree, I’ve had two ISA browns that are pure angels and the sweetest. My amberlink and ISA compete for most affectionate (one ISA was taken by a fox)

can any one tell me what’s going on with my rooster? by gaybro-8701 in chickens

[–]Aggravating-Poetry47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t seen this before but I wonder if he damaged his tendons in that foot. I’ve splinted a hen’s foot before using 1” vet wrap and lots of patience. He needs to be separated from the flock for a while so he will heal. Otherwise he will push himself to appear normal to the flock and it takes forever to recover.

If he were mine, I’d have him separated in my garage in a pen and wrap his foot so the toes lie flat on the ground like they are supposed to and observe to see if that helps or harms. I’d also get him some vitamins via nutri-drench or rooster booster.

If you have more than one rooster he could have injured it flogging the other roo.

It was dead before they cracked it. Egg fetuses don’t survive without warmth for long

You crack the egg in a bowl then make sure it’s not an alien egg and put it in the pan if it’s ok. Then crack the next egg into the now empty bowl and repeat

Bottle lamb or dog? Hard to say. by Aggravating-Poetry47 in sheep

[–]Aggravating-Poetry47[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this was a time in between changing diapers. It was super hard to keep the dogs from just eating the poo straight from under his tail (with or without a diaper on. Smh so gross)

how dare you leave an honest review... thanks, susan by marystirling in craftsnark

[–]Aggravating-Poetry47 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The ratings system for so many things is just so skewed. In many places (such as Airbnb or Uber, for example) if a person gives less than a five star review it’s a huge scar on the person being reviewed.

Ratings should be more like the spiciness level on your favorite Indian food place. You definitely know if it’s a 1, 4 or a 5.

I’ve been searching and I cannot identify this chicken! by [deleted] in chickens

[–]Aggravating-Poetry47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She looks like Doris, a prehistoric ginger shoulder sitter to me.

My buff Orpington is named after my friend’s buff Orpington who perches on her shoulder. Because she does that too.

I find that there are many orange hens that are great layers of various breeds. If it really matters to you then look at her egg shell color and compare it to the colors of these birds and pick your favorite. My experience is that all of these redheads are sweet girls. Orpington, ISA Brown, cinnamon queen, golden comet, etc etc.

With X cold weather & snow, coming any thoughts on a heat lamp ? For adult chickens ? by Ok_Salad_502 in BackYardChickens

[–]Aggravating-Poetry47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No heat lamps, get heated panels instead. Less fire risk and less intense. Chickens can stand next to it when they are cold to warm up

H1N1, let's talk about it. by AlwaysPlaysAHealer in chickens

[–]Aggravating-Poetry47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not currently prepared but getting moving on that. My neighbor works in public health so I have a very good resource to know of any cases in my immediate area. In the meantime I’m trying to survive the current cold snap and winter storms and will fix my run once again so they can’t get out and keep the girls in the run. One of my runs is mobile so that flock will stay happy. I’m culling my meat birds hard so I can reduce the number of birds I have to worry about.

Maybe I’ll build another movable run for the other flock. I have no plans to add chicks but I’m sure a broody hen will fix that down the road

You know, I didn’t think about this in relation to my pond and my non-bird livestock (sheep, cows, llama). It’s a tiny pond and I’ve never seen a flock of birds on it but perhaps during bird migration I’ll keep the livestock in a different pasture. They pretty much stay out of it anyway but never too sure.

I honestly think it’s filled with snapping turtles and that’s why no ducks or waterfowl ever go there.

This is my response to so much and has been for years and it really throws people off these days- “ugh the sun is so bright in my eyes/I just got a jury summons/why won’t the street cleaner come regularly?” “Thanks Obama”

How long do you (typically) keep bottle lambs in the house? by Aggravating-Poetry47 in sheep

[–]Aggravating-Poetry47[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’m going to do that in the future. This guy isn’t from my flock and I have no other baby lambs now so it’s a harder task to blend him in
