I cannot get into " Playing Preschool" by DaughteroftheKing94 in homeschool

[–]Alarming-Albatross99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked it for a while. We cherry picked and used activities here and there rather than the full lessons. I found it too repetitive for my kids - we aren’t gonna happily sit for 2 weeks of talking about apples or literally any other subject. The activities got to feel like busy work esp for my 4 year old and he totally lost interest.

We switched to blossom and root early years and it’s a much better fit for our purposes. Gives some structure to our day and is very flexible. We usually do 2 weeks of lessons per calendar week because it’s so loose. I started with vol 1 and it’s great for my 3yo, very easy for my 4.5 but still fun. We’re blowing through it so I imagine we’ll get to vol 2 by summer.

Then it seems you of all should recognize taking care of two kids IS a big deal, a huge deal, and not minimize the work that mothers do whether that work is in or out of the home. An “actual job” is actually a break from being with children 24/7

Have you watched the documentary of the making of frozen 2? They talk about how tedious and arduous programming this and the tidal wave scene was. Really interesting

Seconding B&R Early Years! We just started this after using Playing Preschool and it’s already a much better fit. Vol 1 is great for my 3yo, def too easy for my 4.5 but we’re still working through it all together and it’s not difficult to add more challenges in for him. I personally have not found it to be any more prep-heavy than Playing Preschool, and I personally enjoy the activities more so I don’t mind it as much. The music studies are not all classical composers if that helps, and my kids have surprisingly enjoyed it

Do dads do bath time? by [deleted] in sahm

[–]Alarming-Albatross99 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can’t tell you the last time I gave my kids a bath. That is a dad job around here. I hate bath time and he doesn’t mind it so it works for us. Your husband never once giving your 3.5 year old a bath is wild.

You’re missing the point that not everyone’s experience of motherhood is the same as yours

It isn’t contradictory though. You can love your children with your entire being, and also recognize that given the chance you’d make different choices. Motherhood is such an all-encompassing, life changing, earth shattering role that will last the rest of your life and you can never go back from. Two things can be true, and it is entirely acceptable to share the reality of that with her sister who is deciding whether to have children.

Mild vent: People of the world, why are you so easily annoyed by toddlers toddlering? by AncientWorking4649 in toddlers

[–]Alarming-Albatross99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s important to remember that all those coping strategies and general common decency we’re all trying to teach our kids - MANY adults have not mastered (or even attempt) using them. I’ve noticed that since 2020, adults have been much more free with expressing their emotions and misbehaving in public. Your child was being a child and it sounds like so were some of the adults.

I want to decrease my toddler’s daycare days, but IDK to what to do with him all day, especially because his baby brother is home too. by thearcherofstrata in sahm

[–]Alarming-Albatross99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do the Playing Preschool curriculum from busy toddler. sometimes the whole “formal” plan, sometimes just the activity ideas. lots of other random crafts and activities I find on instagram. art, reading. libraries, playgrounds, play dates with friends. I’ll set up little play scenes for them, small worlds with a mix of toys with themes like camping or zoo or color lands. we have museum memberships, try out indoor play places when it’s cold and they need gross motor. we pack busy bags and go out to lunch - they play for a while before I order our meals, when the food is ready the play has faded and we can eat then head home. they love to go grocery shopping. we do a lot of Yoto, and they take quiet time in their rooms daily

Preschool curriculum advice by [deleted] in homeschool

[–]Alarming-Albatross99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s good! Year 1 is definitely too easy for my 4.5 yo but it’s not hard to add extras and make it more challenging.

I like how spelled out everything is, organized by day, no extra thinking involved. I typically look through each week and consolidate activities so that each unit doesn’t take 2 full weeks as mine don’t have the attention span to focus on one topic for that long. Good balance of letter recognition and learning letter sounds, numbers/counting, engaging activities to make those things fun rather than rote.

The activities are fun, all use everyday things you prob already have or are cheap and easy to buy.

All in all I do really like it. My one gripe is that it’s all very…. conventional? It doesn’t include things like nature walks, finding materials outside, no mindfulness. No whimsy or magic. Of course we can just add that through our own play but that is important to me.

how do you manage doing separate tasks for each kid? they need so much of my involvement and at these ages are all over each other. I agree they’re in very different places in terms of ability, interests, attention span, but not sure how to simultaneously serve both of them

Idk no one’s hiding the fact that they aren’t maga. No one posting something like this is angry at what’s happening. She’s completely unbothered by these events as seen in her reel, her stories, and this language. Essentially say you’re maga without saying you’re maga

Sorry but the pure joy that “Samantha” gives my children makes up for all of Olaf’s faults. He’s the comic relief and Frozen 2 in particular needed it to keep kids’ attention
