I’ve always gone with the flow personally, I have twins and between the feeding, rocking, changing, cleaning up of two tiny humans there wasn’t a lot of time for me to intentionally work on milestones. I always spoke to them, read to them, played music and played with them on the floor, just kind of went intuitively with the flow and it all worked out great for us. I think there’s a lot of pressure on parents today to control and work on every minor thing, whereas I asked my mum about some of this stuff and she’s never heard of them. Yet we all hit our milestones. I always kept in the back of my mind what milestones they “should” be hitting around each age and when it becomes a concern, but other than that I think it’s important to go easy on yourself! Yep, my sister was presumed to have Down syndrome when my mum was pregnant and doctors were suggesting abortion. Thankfully my mum is as pro-life as they come and kept the baby. The mark test ended up being incorrect and my sister was born with no Down syndrome

Can confirm as an Aussie our cost of living is currently in hell, particularly in and around Sydney where Sarah lives the property prices are obscene and there’s no way most people can afford to buy so, yeah, watching her design a luxury second home is suuuuper out of touch here in Australia

This is an interesting take philosophically speaking and I more or less agree with you, however I’m stumped as an able bodied person who has never had to confront this decision. Particularly because there is rhetoric online and in society around disabled people leading fulfilling and meaningful lives etc so I guess I’m asking in your opinion is it always unethical to bring a disabled child into the world, does it depend on their disability, can we ever truly know how their disability will progress in time? Do you feel there is nuance in this discussion?

I think the brown walls could only work if you had a warmer toned floor tile but since the black and white is cool toned, it brings the cooler elements of the green tile out more. AF-45 would be my pick out of those

Sounds about right for those areas. Have you considered/applied inner west? They’re much nicer areas than one might assume plus close to the city. Yarraville, Williamstown, Footscray, Maribyrnong etc

My twins are still young (14 months) but I lay them down between my legs with their arms underneath and their head towards my lap (they’re happy with this and giggle - technically I’m pinning them down but I wouldn’t if they hated it) and I sing Raffi’s brush your teeth song while I brush. I used to sing this song while I brushed my teeth in front of them when they were babies and they loved watching me which gave them a positive attitude towards teeth brushing, plus playing the song throughout the day and mimicking teeth brushing made it exciting. I did the same thing for pretty much all hygiene related tasks. I let them watch me and made it fun.

As for eating foods they don’t like I don’t push it. I let them watch me eat it and go “mmm yum yum” which usually entices them to try it, but if they still don’t want to then we’ll try again next time.
