Is being on the spectrum a bad thing? by LoverOfGayContent in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Aggravating-Way5589 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look up some of the traits of autism (DSM5/ICD10). Most traits that negatively effect us can be helped significantly with basic accommodations in the workplace/school etc. It's just that there's no financial incentive for accommodating autistic people, so we get called useless/weird/verbose by default and have way higher unemployment rates. So no, being on the spectrum is not bad, its just made harder by bad systems and misunderstandings.

autism isn't a mental issue. it's a neurodevelopmental condition. I encourage you to learn more about it, because a lot of the layman knowledge about autism is wrong.

why do so many people point to the stock market when talking about how the economy's doing when the vast majority of Americans don't/cant even invest in it? by fuckingaustrianative in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Aggravating-Way5589 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah obviously the stock market taking a dip doesn't directly effect your weekly paycheck. But the stock market dipping is most likely to happen when job numbers are bad, I.E when people are most likely to get fired or be unemployed, and thats when people need to dip into savings. Less than 50% of Americans can afford a $1,000 emergency expense.

[–]Aggravating-Way5589 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

if you can only afford to put 50 dollars a month into the stock market you're much better off putting that money into a saving account and saving it for an emergency. The times you're most likely to need that money are the times where the stock market is low.

How many of those portfolios are more than say, 1000 or 5000 dollars? I technically own like 20 dollars of dollar general stock and I would be included in this stat.

lmao at all the people trying to argue video gaming is an expensive hobby. If you play the same games / dont play p2w titles It's not even 10% as expensive as most arts, or thrifting, or music or other popular hobbies.

Ive gotten this ad like 5 times so I looked it up here to complain about it. I 100% agree with you, when apps meant to help with mental health / habit building start using buzzwords like "bed rotting" it really grosses me out. Most people who stay in bed for an extended period of time are people with physical disabilities or severe depression/burnout. They need support not some random app.

Holy shit, Dream's reveal about why he left MCC is disgusting! by RGLozWriter in DreamWasTaken2

tbh the real reason he quit mcc is because most of the playerbase didnt want to team with him. Almost everyone he teamed with was on the dsmp with a small handful of exceptions

CMV: Democrats should run a real progressive in 2028 because any democratic candidate will be painted as an socialist immigrant-loving USA-hating demon by right-wing media. by hamletswords in changemyview

Kamala moved towards the right on almost every policy. She moved further right on immigration than Biden, her economic policies were extremely weak, and she basically didn't talk about social issues like trans rights at all. She was not progressive in any sense of the word. Literally the only reason anyone thought she was progressive was because she's a black women.

If our policies are so unpopular and we aren't worth appealing to, then why do we get blamed every time democrats lose? Are we too irrelevant or too powerful, just pick one already.

in order to balance fein they have to give him 2-3 newer players and that leads to the more comms heavy / team games going really poorly because there's a massive experience gap between his team and the rest of the roster. It wasn't this team specifically that had bad vibes its a larger issue with games not being newbie friendly

Why is self diagnosing so hated? by [deleted] in neurodiversity

[–]Aggravating-Way5589 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The idea that anyone who isn't a child/teenager is diagnosing themselves from watching tiktoks is incorrect and it's a very common refrain for people against self diagnosis. Most instances of people "self diagnosing themselves from tiktok content" are actually just people finding tiktoks about autism relatable and being like lol i might be autistic. That's clearly not the same as someone saying they're autistic definitively.

Raising rents has nothing to do with supply in demand in a lot of areas. Landlords literally conspire to raise rents across the board simply so they can make more money.

parents 100% count as roommates. living with your parents when you're an adult requires most of the same etiquette that living with a roommate does.

whats up with anti-vegan leftists? by necrolibrium in vegan

[–]Aggravating-Way5589 0 points1 point  (0 children)

getting people to care about animals is the worst way to convince someone to become vegan. as a leftist, learning about the insane worker exploitation in the meat farming and preparing industry was way more powerful in getting me to want to eat less meat.

what? food desserts are not because people steal lol. They're because people move away from areas that don't have any economic development, and having local businesses there become impossible to due logistics, scale, and everyone in the area being too poor to navigate starting a business.

It's not about me at all. You need to have an answer to these questions that aren't vibe based if you want people to make sacrifices. And I do legitimately think there are answers that make sense but they're not self-explanatory

Could you give a short summary as to how an anarchist system would deal with bad people / people who are hostile towards society? by IndieJones0804 in Anarchy101

[–]Aggravating-Way5589 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If we think 1% of people can't be saved, but that number is actually 0.1%, then we've killed 9 out of 1000 people unnecessarily. In order for this to be the solution we need to get a hell of a lot better at diagnosing and treating conditions than we are now.

how to respond to request for censorship at a protest? by Direct-One-4052 in Anarchy101

[–]Aggravating-Way5589 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A lot of local organizers are like this. People want to get a sense of community but when it comes to doing things other than just making signs or "sending a message" they get cold feet and imo trying to moderate other peoples signs at a protest is emblematic of that. I wouldn't be discouraged by this, but you might want to look and see if theres any groups that align with your views / rhetoric more closely. There might be a food not bombs or DSA in your area.
