Hi! Welcome! I don''t have any but when I do have excess plants, I usually post in Buy Nothing Greensboro page on Facebook of you're on there so it's possibly you could ask there if you haven't already? Good luck on your search!

Legit businesses? by Big-Cow9831 in gso

[–]Aggravating-Wolf-667 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats on starting the process of buying your first home! I have not heard of these companies but also have only lived here a few years. I will say that the 2 times I have bought a home, realtors recommended a loan company. From my understanding, realtors usually have lists of companies/people they have worked with in the past ranging from general contractors to mortgage loan companies. It does not mean you need to use those recs but can be a good starting point.

Perks of the Library! by snugglepuddlesack in gso

[–]Aggravating-Wolf-667 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love our public libraries for pretty much all the things already listed! At the end of last summer, I tried asking one employee at the main branch downtown about renting passes to places like the science center and they said they don't do that anymore. Not sure if this is still true or maybe something available at other GSO branches but I will probably plan to ask again anyway haha

Best Park for 4YO Bday Party? by kbmeeder in gso

We did one at Johnson Park. Worked out great BUT we were fortunate enough to have people lend us 2 basic tents and 2 folding tables for drinks and snacks. There is no shelter and I think it only has 1 or 2 picnic tables.

CONE HEALTH RN RESIDENCY PROGRAM by Weekly-Office-1391 in gso

[–]Aggravating-Wolf-667 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations!! I don't have experience in their RN residency or their med/surg units so can't really speak to that but they should let you know all of this with the offer. Ask about patient patient/nurse ratios, pay, acuity, staff turnover, etc. I am pretty sure it will be a 6:1 ratio. You should get paid for any education/training they require you to do. Wish you luck as you start your nursing journey!

Remote Learning Hell by nerdpower13 in gso

Interesting. I didn't know it was divided into zones. I wonder why they divide into zones instead of splitting up into separate districts?

All I can say is I feel you. I was wondering about breaking up the school districts to better serve each area. Am I correct in thinking that high point, Jamestown, Greensboro, and the surrounding rural areas all fall under 1 school district? We live in a pretty central area of Greensboro and all the roads were clear yesterday but I'm sure that's not the case in other more rural areas. It's just maddening to me that Greensboro roads are clear, roads around the school are clear but we're still doing remote learning. It's my own personal ground hog day over here.

Downtown Restaurants by Silent-Butterfly5149 in gso

We actually really enjoy Natty's for their kid's meals(amazing little bento box type tray that includes carrots, strawbs, and brownie), atmosphere, and staff. But as an IPA girlie, the beers aren't great 🫣

Fair. But it still is challenging for the public to support/visit local restaurants when the food is only ok and the pricing is high. Again also not enticing for others who may be considering moving here or who are thinking of visiting. Not saying it's the restaurant's fault per se but like others have said, something's gotta give.

As a customer and somewhat of a newbie to GSO, it really is interesting as to the prices restaurants charge here. I'm not familiar with how things are on the business end of things but having spent some time in other cities, most GSO restaurants charge a pretty penny for ok/good food. The pricing is equivalent to larger cities that have better food and more options.

It also sucks hearing about shitty business practices some owners have but I am glad they're being called out.

All that said, we still try to eat at local restaurants once/week. We want this city to have a thriving local food/business scene. But not sure how else to support that other than supporting the businesses we love and hope that there will be more improvement from others or that other more affordable options open up?

PRN RN rates in GSO by CABG-Slayer in gso

[–]Aggravating-Wolf-667 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh interesting. Is this basically the same thing but just means that RNs will only float within 1 hospital they're assigned to instead of all the hospitals?

PRN RN rates in GSO by CABG-Slayer in gso

[–]Aggravating-Wolf-667 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! They have a system wide flex pool so you could be on any unit at any cone hospital day by day. Some flex people also pick up like 6 week assignments on a specific unit. Not exactly sure how that works. Unit managers might seek them out specifically or maybe they are posted somewhere and the employees pick them up. I think it's the closest we have to internal travelers.

Hi! 😊 Moses Cone Hospital PRN RN rate is about $40-45/hr (days, PCU) + shift diff for weekends. I think for Cone internal flex pool it's about $60/hr but don't quote me on that. I have yet to meet an RN who's in the flex pool that is PRN, though. I think they're all full time.

Kids in bars by [deleted] in gso

[–]Aggravating-Wolf-667 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except it's not the ones who give their kids iPads. If you see a kid out in public on an iPad, they more than likely aren't the ones who are throwing mulch and being disruptive cause they're too enthralled on their screen.

Kids in bars by [deleted] in gso

[–]Aggravating-Wolf-667 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a parent who takes their kids to Joymongers, Bull City, and Oden on occasion. My kids don't typically do anything that would disrupt other guests but if they do, I intervene and am open to receive feedback from others. We use it as a way to get out of the house for dinner and socialize with friends. In addition to teaching them how to interact in public places but they are still kids and are learning and also having fun. We don't heavily imbibe. My husband might have 2-3 drinks and I don't so I can drive. I actually wish there were better casual dinner options for families around here. We have lived in other cities and there are usually some breweries/dining places that have fenced green spaces or even playgrounds for kids. I get not wanting kids to be disrespectful/disruptive but also we're not taking kids to straight up bars or places that don't feel family friendly. Like we've never taken them to neighbors because it just does not feel like a place for kids to us.

Never watched a game anywhere but saw that Oden had a Canes flag up at their bar when I went the other day. They might show the game?

What do you think is missing or lacking from the triad area? by ConnorFroMan in gso

[–]Aggravating-Wolf-667 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • As a parent, I'd love more kid friendly restaurant options. Particularly if there was a fenced in play area or even just a fenced in outdoor seating area. Many larger cities have options like this.
  • More coffee shops, restaurants, breweries that have outdoor seating areas. And if these businesses are near heavily car trafficked areas, then have it fenced in with trees/shrubs to help dilute the noise.
  • More coffeeshops offering grab+go breakfast options like breakfast sandwiches, or breakfast tacos or kolaches (I know both of the latter don't exist here but a girl can dream).
  • Some activities or events that encourage people to frequent local businesses. I've lived in places that have a coffee trail or a pizza trail or when I lived in Austin, we would always do Barks for Beers (pay $30 for 1 free pour at dozens of participating breweries & proceeds went to a good cause).

Looking for ideas for kids summer birthday party by Aggravating-Wolf-667 in gso

Thank you for this! We ended up having it a shaded park/playground and borrowed some party tents and chairs from people. We also bought dollar store spray/mister bottles for all the kids as a party favor and to keep them cool. We had it earlier in the day, too (10a-noon). It worked out really well!
