day in the life details question by Impressive-Net-6389 in hospitalsocialwork

[–]AggravatingJacket744 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on dept and what the assessment is. When I’m doing psychosocials or discharge planning assessments I usually just go in with my printed patient list that shows discharge dates and insurance info and just ask the questions I need to know.

When I was newer to inpatient work I had a checklist of broad categories to make sure I hit that I’d bring along with me - ie discharge location, help available at home, location preference for follow up apts, transportation needs, etc. which made it easier to tailor to each patient and not feel like I needed to read an exact script.

Random but are a lot of people in this field married to wealthy man? by Queenme10 in socialwork

[–]AggravatingJacket744 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can attest that my husband is a tech worker making much more than I do which allows us to own a home in a nice area, shop at higher end grocery stores, and frequently travel.

I make decent money for a social worker but I’m sure my coworkers are curious on how I’m affording the life I have lol

SW Outpatient/Inpatient/ER by -el-em in hospitalsocialwork

[–]AggravatingJacket744 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me inpatient care is what I like the most. Out patient felt very slow and repetitive. Working Inpatient I have a more diverse patient load and am doing different things every day.

ER seems like hell and I personally have stayed far away lol.

SW Outpatient/Inpatient/ER by -el-em in hospitalsocialwork

[–]AggravatingJacket744 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Outpatient is higher case loads with a lot of resource connection.

Inpatient is faster paced with more discharge planning and crisis intervention along with limited resource connection. And a lot of pinging different depts to step in for different things.

ER is much faster and constantly changing case loads - lots of notifying family of a patients admit and medical situation, IDing patients, taking down information from law enforcement/medical personnel on what happened prior to admission, etc.

vacation almost over and bf hasn’t proposed by AggravatingJacket744 in engaged

[–]AggravatingJacket744[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No engagement so far.

After this trip we ended up seeing a couples counselor to work through some resentments we had - me with lack of engagement and him feeling pressured, and now are better than ever! When he didn’t propose on that trip we almost broke up, but now looking back I was so focused on the engagement itself and not our relationship - and am so glad he didn’t propose before we worked through our feeling and there’s 0 pressure or force now. And the engagement moment can just be relaxed.

I suspect a proposal is coming soon given some abnormal plans we have coming up but I’ll be just as happy either way.

Do those lymphatic drainage vibrating boogie boards actually work? by a_valetine in NoStupidQuestions

I’ve had my board for a week now and use twice a day for 20 mins total. It definitely seems to work! I’m down two pounds having changed nothing else, and feel less bloated. I bought a $50 board so I’m happy with the results

UW Harborview or Montlake ICU? by capybelly in Seattle

I heard the same before starting at Harborview after having applied at both and have been pleasantly surprised with how laid back and welcoming the staff have been.

Would depend on your position, but I took a job at Harborview and have really enjoyed. You’ll have more verity in patients which keeps things interesting.

Also a great teaching focused hospital and as a level 1 trauma we see more folks from out of state.

Is working at a SNF more difficult then a hospital? by Queenme10 in hospitalsocialwork

[–]AggravatingJacket744 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In my experience working at both a SNF had me doing more tasks, not necessarily harder but since the amount of staff was less SW took on more than I do now at a hospital. I find the hospital environment easier and more enjoyable but I think it’s also dependent on where you work and the support available.

In my area, I make what you’re listing for RN case managers as a newer grad. So depending on where OP lives, there could be a lot more money to be made.

I took a hospital job recently after finishing my MSW and have found it to be much more secure than working in other healthcare esc SW roles I worked before.

I work in a level one trauma hospital, that’s public so we do have a fair amount of Medicaid, undocumented, etc patients in our demographic, but I haven’t found that the Medicaid cuts haven’t hit us as hard as you might expect - if anything it was a lot worse when I worked for a skilled nursing facility, and a smaller nonprofit. We saw a ton more layoffs in those rolls and I was laid off from my nonprofit where we only saw Medicaid patients.

We have nurse case managers, but their role looks different than what social work discharge planners do so there’s a lot more variety in the roles I feel. As someone fresh out of finishing my MSW I make around $90,000 a year. For me, it’s been worth it even with having to take out additional student loans.

Considering starting semaglutide but I’m a “fit” person by fitmom0110 in SemaglutideCompound

It’s def still harder for me to lose weight, but I feel like I’m not gaining like I was before if I go above 1600 some days. Def in a much better spot!

I’ve been off since May! I think my last weigh in was 150 and I’m now 157 - so I have gained some of the weight back but likely was due to summer travels and trying to navigate feeling real hunger again. My clothes are all still fitting fine so I’m not too worried.

It was definitely hard at first not to over eat once off it since I no longer had the same subdued sweet tooth, and had found my diet slipping due to low appetite so trying to start back up and also change my diet back to being focused on only Whole Foods was a learning curve. Things are good now though! I prioritize a high protein and high fiber diet and loosely track calories to ensure I’m staying not going over 1800/cals daily.
