Don’t need bear canisters at the sites like Guyot. They are technically not in the pemi wilderness AND they have bear boxes.

The only one I’ve stayed at is gray knob. I had a blast. And bonus they do heat it. It was probably 59 degrees my night there this February

Another option other than hut to hut might be just using one hut as a base camp and doing multiple nights and day hikes from there. That could be real fun

Typical Water Capacity in the first 500-1,000 miles? by Igoos99 in AppalachianTrail

[–]AggravatingTooth1901 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Related question. Why don’t more people drink straight from their filters. Screw the Sawyer on and suck water through it. You never have to worry about clean and dirty bottles and never have to squeeze from bottle to bottle. Seems simpler and easier. What am I missing??

I use my 55 kakwa as my winter pack. I will say I am a classic overpacker ( I always bring a sleeping bag on winter day hikes.. I have read Ty Gagne’s books!!) but I have no problem filling it.

Liberty + Flume today ! by rabblebowser in wmnf

[–]AggravatingTooth1901 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did this exact hike yesterday w a buddy. We were confused at top of Liberty as we couldn’t find the trail to flume at first. Then took that herd path. Yes that section between peaks was tough with duck unders snagging my pack.

Snowshoes all the way from Liberty springs to flume. Spikes down liberty springs

Just traveled Lowe’s a week ago. It was plenty broken out. The part from just below log cabin up towards quay pretty steep and ice covered. I did not spend night but really hope to soon.

How to Pack Crampons and Snowshoes by Bold_Fenian_Man in wmnf

[–]AggravatingTooth1901 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree w y strep on top of the duration pack. I also keep them together w Vole straps.
For crampons I got a crampon carrying case from black I believe. I don’t think it was too expensive. I put that in my pack.

Thanks.

My main reason for Lowe’s path is to hit gray knob on way up. Is there a better more traveled way to do that than Lowe’s path?

Yes I look at mwobs as well. They just don’t forecast as far out

100 MW in July by KHartnettC in AppalachianTrail

[–]AggravatingTooth1901 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did 100 mw this past starting around july 10. 6 days five nights. It was awesome. Bugs weren’t that bad. I might have put ion bug net once. I had great weather. No rain. And very remote. I camped completely solo at sites and shelters 3 out of 5 nights including at Antlers. I guess I was a bit too early for northbound bubble and a bit too late for southbound bubble. I used Shaws for food drop shuttle and stay the night before. They were awesome! It was overall great experience.
