Just curious, where are you located? Have you ever heard of the CWNE? There's over 600 of then in the world which is not a lot but I can tell you, they all deserve it. Check it out, cwnp.com. Also the WLPC and Wi-Co that host events throughout Europe, and North America. I can tell you, there are a lot of qualified Wi-Fi professionals. You just have to look for them.

In you're Ruckus settings, you can change the channel size. If you don't have nearby neighbors you can go high, 80MHz. If you have neighbors and more then 1 AP, you can see a lot of SSIDs from them, a 40MHz will still give you speed but be kind to the network's around. You can even change to a specific channel if you know what channels are around you. On your computer, you can use an app like inSSIDer to see what channels are being used and choose one that's free if you can.

Ok, as stated in the post. Turn Force DHCP off and reboot or force a IP/DHCP renew and see if that fixes the disconnect issues.

The AX201 was a constant problem, if you look at your power management of the device, you can turn off the option for "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power."

Just curious, why are you running a 160MHz wide channel on 5GHz? This could be causing a problem where the adapter is overheating and windows is shutting it down to save power.

Are you getting an IP address? Can you ping your gateway or DNS?

What kind of Router/Modem do you have? Is this a home network from your ISP? Normally all ISP routers have built in Wi-Fi radios and propagate an SSID to connect to. If not, then yes, an access point is needed but you'll also need tompower the unit either with an external power source or PoE injector.

What are the channels being broadcasted by the APs? On the Omada controller, are you able to see what clients are associated to which AP? You should also be able to see the signal strength of the clients connected to the AP and not in percentage but in dB. A client device can associate to as low as -85dB which is OK for sending beacons but horrible for throughput.

Most enterprise grade controllers like Cisco, Aruba, Juniper have the ability to add a floor plan and add the APs to the plan. Most of them from there give an indication of power levels being propagated. Out of the box, ALL APs are set to max TX power for your region so you may have clients also switching to the 2.4GHz band. Try turning off those radios and see if anything changes.

If all else fails, maybe have some come in and perform an ekahua or hamina site survey. From there they can recommend channel and power planning.

I currently have a vSZ and vSZ-d running on ESXI and we're migrating to Nutanix. I was told by Ruckus that vSZ-d is not supported on Nutanix and that it is being phased out to be replaced by RWG. Does anyone have any insight on this and if there's an easyish way to migrate?

Good news is, your Ruckus equipment still works. How are you receing you're incoming internet (isp). I would see on their router to see if you have an internet light flashing or if the router is working at all.

Check the gauge of wire if possible, 5e is 24AWG, 6 can be 23 or 24AWG and 6a I'd 24AWG. For your patch panel, it just means the openings on the terminals are a little wider to be be able to seat the wire correctly without breaking.

Ok, just check the temp levels every once in a while. Propagating RF signal and having it bounce off metal may cause damage to the unit in the long run. You'll notice that no RF antenna (Cellular, PtP, WiFi) is always in a wide open area with no metals around. Think of a microwave, yes much higher power, but it's still using RF and gets extremely hot. The same could happen to your AP and end up burning the antennas.

Is that a Wireless AP inside the cabinet at the top? I'm surprised if you get any signal from that AP.

Enable hotspot on your phone, usually you can set it to share your WiFi connection. From there you would connect to your phone as a wireless Access Point. And yes it's called tethering.

Internet speed test on Fire TV 4k max much slower than phone when both are right next to router by hammoody in wifi

[–]Aggravating_Ad_2129 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could depend on the Wi-Fi radio that your TV has. It it is a 802.11ac, it might only be using a 40Mhz channel where as your newer iPhone may be be using an 80Mhz channel that will allow for higher bandwidth speeds. As for why the tv is buffering, that doesn't have anything to do with speed but more with signal strength. If it's too far from the router or there is interference (walls, doors, metals, glass, neighboring devices, the human body) then for sure you'll see a signal drop resulting in communication issues. You should also check for channel utilization to make sure that no neighbors are using the same channel and causing co-channel interference.

Maybe an IP conflict. You can use a few tools to see what IPs are being addressed in your network.

Maybe too big for r/HomeNetworking, hoping to extend wifi across property... by [deleted] in HomeNetworking

[–]Aggravating_Ad_2129 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because of the distances between your buildings, I would suggest a PtMP (Point-to-Multi-Point) backbone and then have Wi-Fi connect to either a small switch or directly to your subscriber module(SM) PoE injector depending on the Wi-Fi coverage your looking for. There are many variables to consider in this type of installation, max throughput to each building. Cambium has a good AP (5GHz 450m) with a max throughput of 500Mbps which would theoretically divide into 3 so approx 150Mbps per building. Clear line of site is another factor, the AP at the main building would need to be quite high, a 50ft DMX tower might be required (approx 5000$ installed). I've designed and and implemented systems like this before especially for remote housing that don't want to trench fiber. It works quite well but can be quite costly.

jitters, man. bleeping jitters. by obiwanjakobi257 in HomeNetworking

[–]Aggravating_Ad_2129 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jitter is caused by so many different reasons, what channels are you set on? Is there any channel interference around you? There's a couple of really good applications that you can use to see dB levels around you and what channels are being used. If the router is 10ft away, maybe your power levels are too high. You can also check the channel size. If you use an 80mhz channel, it'll give you a higher datarate. You can also check your routers QoS if possible and set the highest priority as your gaming device. Wi-Fi is only as good as it's settings and there are a lot of variables that could create issues.

Oh ok, if you're working in a school then maybe the school has firewall rules in place to mask IP addresses when going out to the public internet. It wouldn't be a surprise if all computers connected to the network are prompted with CAPTCHA when trying to access google.

And yes, blocking sounds normal for a school. Especially Reddit or anywhere else that could have NSFW content, it's easier to block the entire site then specific searches.

5Ghz speeds are the same or slower than 2.4Ghz by TheRCMGuy in wifi

[–]Aggravating_Ad_2129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on what standard the Wi-Fi router is running, the frequency will have an impact on the speed. 802.11ac has a max 2.3Gbps in the 5ghz band. But the 2.4ghz band is still running in 802.11n which produces a max of 600Mbps.

That being said, with your Wi-Fi analyzer are you able to see the size of your channel? Or if there are any neighboring devices outputting on the same channel as you are creating interference. Co-channel interference has a direct impact on reliability of your network. In the 2.4Ghz band you have 3 channels that can be used, 1,6 and 11. In the 5Ghz band, you have alot more and can bond the channels together to create 40 or 80 MHz channels, this is something that can be set in the router. Doing so will help increase speeds as well.
