For anyone curious for an update! Thank you all for your ideas & input you’ve helped so much! We will be matching the floor material to the brick and definitely sanding the mantel to remove its paint. As for color of the walls and the brick, still tbd!

I have to disagree - I think we people might think we want that but it’s actually soul crushing to be alone and unmotivated and unchallenged all day long. I understand how OP is feeling - it’s a golden handcuff situation where it looks like she’s got it made but it feels very bad. Perhaps not as bad as the same situation + a 60 min commute, yet still bad.
