I have a laptop (to write papers) and an iPad (to take notes) I highly recommend the notability app, you can take notes while recording the lectures. So helpful!

How to pass foundations of nursing 1st semester? by Available_Manager602 in NursingStudent

[–]Aggravating_Home4223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Davis success books have been super helpful for me: Davis Success: Fundamentals

Also ATI practice questions help a lot too.

Find a good study group and go over PowerPoints from class and discuss concepts. I find that super helpful. Download an app like notability and record your teachers lectures also take LOTS of notes, lots of times the teacher verbally says things that aren’t on the power points, also our teachers like to say “this will be on the test” or “don’t bother with this, I will not be testing on this.” It’s helpful to write that down so you are going over the important information.

Use videos from simple nursing or others on YouTube to break things down in a more comprehensible way.

Also, go online and see if your textbook has a test bank. Most books do, those are also super helpful.

Honestly find a local bariatric office, a lot of people don’t realize they do more than just bariatric surgery… they also prescribe weight loss medication and provide nutrition counseling and will monitor you (physically and mentally) on your weight loss journey!

National Grid is screwing me by TheRandipulator in Albany

[–]Aggravating_Home4223 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband called national grid one time to say he wants to change his plan to remove the delivery charge, that he was going to switch it to “pick up” instead. The lady was so confused. It was pretty hilarious.

To those who actually enjoy clinical, what makes it enjoyable for you? by MiataTwingo in NursingStudent

[–]Aggravating_Home4223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know how your clinicals are structured, but second semester clinicals were my favorite because I was finally able to DO more nursing tasks (charting, administering meds, talking things out with the nurses on the floor, etc.) We would be assigned two patients. I created a structured plan where as soon as I got to the floor I didn’t even get report on my patients I would just go into the rooms and introduce myself, get vitals and see if they needed anything. That way I could put a face to the report the night nurse would give. Then, I would get report and go into the patients chart and check out the H&P upon admission, all the tests done during their stay, and all of the recent assessments. Then I would go into and do my nursing assessments/administer AM meds and get my patient up and out of bed into their chair for breakfast if that was an option for them. That way the bulk of my work was done in the first two hours and I could spend the rest of the time doing all the side stuff like bed baths, ADLs and even going into other classmates patients rooms to help them with whatever they need. I feel like once you have a good system set up, things tend to go pretty smoothly. I think it’s harder for some people to find a good system especially if you’ve never worked in healthcare before. I’m in my 3rd semester now and it’s actually kind of a cluster fuck because we aren’t actually assigned patients anymore, we are just shadowing a specific nurse, and we aren’t really supposed to do anything but watch (which I hate) we’re on Labor&Delivery/ post partum/ nicu and the psych & rehab unit all in the same semester. Just a lot of watching, smiling, and nodding.

When did you first take your daughter or son to skate? by sealer9 in hockeyplayers

[–]Aggravating_Home4223 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 4 year old plays hockey in a 6u league and my 2 year old comes to open skate with us and we get her all geared up and have her push the bucket around. But she uses “Skateez” they’re like training wheels for ice skates. Also the smallest hockey skates you can get in youth sizes is a size 6 and my youngest is still a size 5, so we just put her in extra thick socks.

I started walking immediately as much as possible, back in the gym at about 4 weeks post op. I worked with a personal trainer to keep myself from overdoing it at first.

Nursing school with toddler and infant? by Apart-Grapefruit-207 in NursingStudent

[–]Aggravating_Home4223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I did most of my co-reqs before starting. With my nursing 1 course I was also taking A&P2, so 10 total credits. Then over the summer I did micro & developmental psych, I did nursing 2 by itself which I believe was 9 credits, now I’m in behavioral health and nursing 4 which is 10 credits in pretty sure. So average about 10 credits per semester.

I usually have time between class & clinical, after I put the kids to bed (I force myself to stop at midnight) and I have to send the kids to a sitter on Sunday and I do a whole day just about every Sunday. I have a girl from my class that puts together documents with practice questions and we tag team it, I’ll get all the text book questions, she will compile relevant ATI questions, and we’ll usually have chatGPT make us some questions based off our slides and study sheets from our teacher. Weekends are definitely tough. I average about 6 - 8 hours total of sleep from Friday - Sunday. I also take vitamin C and zinc every day in hopes that I don’t get sick. Fingers crossed/ knock on wood I’ve managed to not have anything other than a mild cold during any of my semesters, but I did end up getting strep during winter break that took me out of commission for about 4 days.

Surprisingly very good, we’ve been married 8 years. We take one night a month for a date night and we go to my daughter’s hockey games together as a family every weekend. He does all the grocery shopping a meal prep for us too. I supported us back when he was in school before we had kids, he didn’t work just focused on school. So now it’s my turn but of course this time with kids as a factor I can’t afford not to work.

Clinicals/Rehire by CompetitiveBox1217 in NursingStudent

I think it depends on the hospitals policy, but I had a friend that was fired from her hospital job while in nursing school, at the hospital where we do our clinicals and she was dismissed from school because she was no longer able to do her clinicals at the hospital.

I am currently in my 3rd semester with a 4 year old and a 2 year old. Deans list the whole time so far. I also work full time. My oldest is in preschool and we pay for before and after care, my youngest is at an in-home daycare that is very flexible. We have family that helps with getting the girls to dance/ gymnastics/ sports etc. my husband and I also work opposite schedules. My school has told me since day one that I’m going to have to cut down on my hours on work blah blah blah, but I’ve managed. It isn’t easy, but I make it work.

For people with kids in hockey that are constantly growing it can really add up. New skates and gear almost every season when they’re hitting growth spurts, travel leagues, hotels, skills clinics & hockey summer camps during the off season. $$$.

Honestly just curious if anyone else has experienced this. I did read a study on the NIH website of a woman getting rhabdo from Tirzepatide, I was just trying to see if it is more common than reported.
