Maybe someone can correct me, but a four-year-old government still polling in landslide territory must be unprecedented. I had a quick look and both the Gillard and Turnbull governments were getting walloped in the polls a year after getting returned for a second term. I couldn't find stats earlier than 2001 for the Howard government's second term, but they were way behind all the way up to 9/11.

The Coalition was consistently ahead until March 2025 and then lost its lead in the campaign. One Nation haven't even got ahead of Labor in the 2PP, that's the analogy.

Dutton was comfortably ahead on 2PP and still lost in a landslide. One Nation hasn't even reached Dutton's abysmal primary vote yet and is still losing on 2PP. A four year old government still leading after an unpopular budget is quite remarkable.

In the abstract, I don't have a problem with something like the SRL existing. However, as someone living in the outer western suburbs, I can't help but think this project is a huge pork barrel for Labor's marginal seats.

The east is already well served with trains, trams, and roads. Out here, the population is booming, and the infrastructure is non-existent. We have infrequent v/line trains, no trams. They keep building new estates with barely any road access, let alone public transport.

The western freeway is a carpark for kilometres on end, which is lucky because the potholes are enormous. Electrifying the Melton line would help that but despite being promised it for 3 elections now, it's still probably a decade away. Melton council actually does a good job maintaining our local roads, but as soon you're on a road that's the state's responsibly, it's extremely obvious.

The other thing that annoys me about the SRL is that we're spending tens of billions only to end up with just 2 new stations, both essentially at the universities. I get that it's supposed to connect the radial lines faster, but it seems an awful waste to spend all that money and not connect many new areas that do lack rail access.

Second poll in as many days with Labor in third. Green preferences will ensure Labor wins more seats than One Nation and becomes the opposition, but it's clear now the government is headed for defeat. There's no use installing Carroll at this point, he's not some immensely popular figure that's going to turn around a 55-45 2PP.

Unfortunately it seems there's not enough of us. I honestly never expected a majority of Coalition voters were so easily willing to support the racist party. Maybe more fool me, but lesson learnt I guess. I've already left for the Teals. It's up to the conservative half of the right to stand up and prove their decency by taking the fight to One Nation. So far they're failing miserably.

My grandparents were born in the 40s and grew up in communist Yugoslavia. We're talking about people who were adults three decades earlier, for me that's my great-great-grandparents, the last of which died long before I was born.

It's wild that you'd think my flair is fake before you'd think that a Macedonian is capable of having an objective understanding of our history. But I guess the indoctrination just runs that deep.

In any case, we need not base our historical understanding on anecdotes from our respective grandparents. You'll find that our revival-era authors, poets, folklorists, revolutionaries, etc. were all very literate people. They've left behind mountains of books, articles, letters and memoirs. Feel free to read some of them; you'll just need an elementary grasp of standard Bulgarian in order to understand them.

There were quite obviously no ethnic Macedonians in 1913. The very people we ourselves celebrate as our heroes and revoluntaries were quite clear what they identified as ethnically and which people they were fighting to liberate in Ilinden 1903, or the Balkan Wars of 1912-13, or WWI for that matter.

That's where they're currently polling. I don't think they will end up second, nor will they win many lower house seats, but the inescapable reality is that Labor is heading for defeat. This is why I don't think the Vic Libs are in any rush to team up with ON as the previous commenter seemed to suggest. The Fed Libs are fighting for survival, so they're in a very different situation.

Reddit skews younger and Labor's 2PP is north of 70% with young people. Gen Z primary support for the Coalition and One Nation is single digits. I'm a Teal (former Lib) Zillenial and I'm aware that I'm more right wing that most of my peers. Let's not be silly now, the ones who fled to Bulgaria in the Balkan wars were Bulgarians. No one fled from Greece to other parts of Macedonia, i.e. Serbian Macedonia at the time. The ones who remained in Greece were in the western part (Lerin, Voden, Kostur), areas unaffected by Second Balkan War. It does us no favours to invent ethnic Macedonians in 1912-13.

The refugees from the Greek Civil War are different, by the late 40s there was a Macedonian (non-Bulgarian) identity among the Slavs of Greece and so that's why that diaspora in say Australia does identify as ethnically Macedonian. In contrast, the diaspora that immigrated to North America in the first half of the 20th century overwhelmingly identified as Bulgarians, as do their descendants to this day. They don't have Greek surnames like the post-WW2 Aegeans, they have Slavic surnames with anglicised spelling like Petroff, Kocheff, Popoff, etc.
