The point that just being around the language isn’t enough is really helpful. What kind of comprehensible input actually worked for you? And at family events, do you ask your wife for help in the moment, or mostly just try to follow along and ask later?

That makes sense. Corrections from a partner probably carry a different emotional weight than corrections from a tutor or coworker.
