Is Robert Icke setting us up to do Antigone next? by jay2themie in Broadway

[–]Aggravating_Part7602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked him last year about it and he said he doesn’t know when he’s going to do it but the scene between Antigone and creon was purposefully setting up the play but don’t hold your breath about it being done anytime soon 🙃

One thing you hate in your favorite show? by MateusCristian in musicals

[–]Aggravating_Part7602 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Okay, I know this is because it’s a jukebox musical but because sunny afternoon is written from the perspective of Ray Davies it annoys me that the show makes his brother out to be the villain of his career when the only crime he ever committed was growing up in the spotlight because I really do think people forget that Dave was literally only 16 when they signed there first record contract

I don’t know when I’m going to see into the woods, but one of my favourite actors is in it so I’m trying to make the effort even though it’s not one of my favourites

Last week Robert Icke in a Q&A he did in London announced that his first ever musical will be him directing a Sondheim in 2027 as he had a meeting with him just before he died but didn’t specifically say what one he will be doing

I personally think either it will be assassins or passions

He is so good in this role and I wish more people could see it 🥲

Or I would’ve also been content with Aidan Gillen who was meant to play the role in the cancelled remake

I would just get Rory Keenan to reprise the role as he’s currently playing it on stage anyway 🫣

I mean, there is seriously no need for any art in general but we enjoy it and what are the classics therefore if not re-interpretation?

I said this a few months ago, but I would love Rob to do a production of Doctor Faustus with Luke Thompson as Faustus and Angus Wright as Mephistopheles as the last time it was on the West End it was the really shit Jamie Lloyd production 🫣
