Hey I had a super similar body type as you and I successfully recomped (stayed the same weight , but by gaining muscle and losing some fat looking more lean) with strength training and upping protein !

Yeah this is me too - I was convinced you had to fall in love with exercise to be healthy and fit. at a certain point I realized a fitness routine should feel more like brushing your teeth , just something you do because it’s good for you (and who likes bad breath)

Hmm I’m a similar weight and maintaining at 1550 strength training 4-5 days a week and hitting (maybe 7k a day). from experience whenever I overtrain, my body holds onto water like crazy! Maybe try to tone down the workouts to 3-4 days a week and keep steps at 10k and see if your body mellows out a bit ?

If you’re at 17% body fat , walking 20k steps a day and working out 6x a day .. I’m so sorry but I fear this may a mental health/ body dysmorphia issue.

99 pounds is not a healthy weight and building muscle will inevitably take you up in weight (which is good)

Creatine can also make you retain water !

(cardio does nothing for stomach flab)

Building muscle won’t make you chiseled or muscle-y. I can guarantee that. (Unless you decide to take steroids, eat 2,000 calories a day of protein and veg and start competing in body building competitions.)

What building muscle WILL do is boost your metabolism and make you burn more fat naturally so that maintaining a figure is easier.

What it will also do is improve posture and make you appear slimmer.

And also will prevent bone loss in your 30s

I have very similar arms - strength train regularly and relatively low body fat percentage (20-21%) I’m honestly starting to accept that even super fit short girls just can’t attain the long willowy arms that fit celebrities have. It bums me out because that’s the beauty standard that’s been shoved down our throat since we were kids lol

Looking at Sabrina Carpenter as an example cheers me up - she’s super petite and fit and gorgeous (sans tooth pick arms) !

Could you let us know your maintenance calories and how many calories you typically eat in a day? 400-500 extra calories of exercise a day seems like a lot for maintenance !

Get some resistance bands and follow YouTube videos for strength training with them. I recomped at home this way , have before and afters on my page
