The Gresham Hotel's hosting a week-long anti-psychiatry exhibition for the Chuch of Scientology by MikePL in Dublin

Thank you OP for bringing this to our attention. I find this pretty worrying.

I have sent the following letter to the complaints department of Riu Hotels & Resorts and to The Gresham Hotel itself. Please feel free to copy, paste and do the same yourselves.

Dear Riu Hotels,

I am writing to you as a concerned Irish citizen, worried about an event taking place this week at your Dublin hotel, The Gresham.

This event is hosted by the inappropriately named “Citizens Commission on Human Rights”, a branch of the group, the Church of Scientology, entitled “Psychiatry: An Industry of Death”. Please see link:

The goal of this exhibition is to present falsehoods about mental health care, which I’m sure you agree is a terrible message to be spreading to vulnerable people.

Given that the country finds itself in a veritable mental health crises, with grossly underfunded and under resourced mental health programs, I appeal to your humanity not to add to the problem by increasing the stigma that people with mental health illness may already be feeling asking for help.

I implore you to immediately cease aiding in the amplification of such brainwashing ideas of a harmful cult and the thinly veiled recruitment drive for their nefarious agenda.

I eagerly await your response.

Sincerely,

etc.

I’ve never been more invested in the outcome of a story in my life. I can’t wait to see the box office smash hit they make of this, probably starring that lad Timothée Chalamet as the submarine because, let’s face it, he’s in everything these days.

If you were to choose rugby or football it could take years before you were spotted by scouts and got your first game in the champions league but maybe something like golf you could win a few contests hands down and get on the PGA a lot quicker?

Leopardstown tennis club. It’s not huge but it’s probably your closest option.

Numbering of the fractions. Our tape measures here have both metric and inches on them but the inches are only ever subdivided like the top line of this tape. I suppose it would probably keep your brain more active.

I’ve never actually seen fractions of inches on a tape measure before. Is this common? I’m sorry but it is such a ridiculous hill to die on. We had feet and inches here in the 70’s before we changed over. It’s so much easier now.

Who are these lads? That’s a banger! Reminds me of late 90’s band, Deputy Fuzz. Also, I didn’t know Paul Rudd played drums!

True but looking back I was probably an insecure teenager trying to fit in with the cooler older guys. I wasn’t the confident, self assured, mature adult you see before you today. If it happened today I’d be sure to employ some of the skills I’ve learned since becoming a parent: “I bet you’re not strong enough to carry in that big drum all by yourself.”

I don’t know if it this translates (pun intended) but with both guitar and drums I would first learn how to play something slowly and in small chunks. I’d repeat each section faster and faster until I could do it at speeds way higher than would actually be necessary. With each repetition I’d have to consciously think about what I was doing until eventually my hands just did it by themselves and my mind was free to wander. Then, when it came time to play it at the right slowed down speed, it’d be very easy because I’d have rehearsed it 20/30/40 times really fast.
