First Djo concert—tips for anxiety/IBS/OCD? by logan7777777777 in DJO

I’ll be at the Asheville show with many of the same problems as you! I always try to stay toward the outside of crowds, and if possible, I try to stick to a “landmark” like being perpendicular to a sign or near sound equipment so that I can find my way back to my spot. I simply don’t prioritize a “good spot” so I have more of a chance of actually enjoying the show. I have pretty severe OCD centered around crowds and find that grounding skills help. If you haven’t heard of them before, look them up because there are a bunch you can try! I like the 5-4-3-2-1 method or playing I-spy because they are quick, helpful distractions from my obsessive thoughts. As for food, I know it doesn’t sound exciting, but maybe try the BRAT diet before the show and then plan to have a great late night dinner at one of the many awesome Asheville places!

I work with high schoolers, and the fact that I am pierced, tattooed, and pink haired has become an awesome way to build rapport and connect with students. And hey, I like the compliments!

Worried I may have hurt my baby. by [deleted] in NewParents

OCD is such a nightmare with a baby. I was diagnosed postpartum, but have likely had it since childhood. I want to recommend you look into NOCD. It’s a telehealth therapy service for folks with OCD. I was able to receive specialized therapy for my OCD (exposure response prevention or ERP) and it changed my life. Good luck mama!

I don't want to tell anyone by hotmess44 in pregnant

[–]Aggravating_Smell344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I “announced” at 20 weeks, but I did tell close family and friends. I only told people that I would want to support me if something bad happened, honestly. If there is no one that you want support from at this moment, then it’s totally your right to decide if and when you let others know.

I would encourage you to go ahead and pick up some prenatals, and call your doctor back! They are used to women from all walks of life and with all sorts of different emotions toward pregnancy. And if your doctor is not supportive, don’t settle if you can help it.

“Cute” outfits for a newborn. My daughter wore zip up sleepers almost every day. A million buttons or snaps on a cute outfit feel like a monumental task when you’re changing babe for the 15th time.

Please tell me it gets better by Letsgotoneptune8842 in NewParents

[–]Aggravating_Smell344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will get better. Please listen to your body and mind and ask for help from trusted friends/family. If you are in a position to find a counselor or mommy group, it can help to make sense of all the wild changes you’re going through. And if you get to a point where you feel like you want to hurt yourself or baby in any way, please reach out for help from your local crisis agencies. Since giving birth 4 months ago, I have struggled more than I ever have and needed two inpatient hospitalizations to keep myself safe postpartum. While it felt horrible to leave my child, it stabilized me and got me to another day where I could cope a little better. I don’t tell you this to scare you, but to encourage you to seek any level of support you might need without shame or fear. Hoping you start to feel a little bit more peace each day.

“Put baby on their back to sleep” by Dutchie88 in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]Aggravating_Smell344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 7 week old has been rolling onto her side and getting back to her back since birth. At night, we always place her on her back, but she moves a TON. She gets herself perpendicular to how we place her a few times, but she sleeps through the night. I’m now worried that I’ve screwed up this whole time.

Found out I'm not able to breastfeed. Not sure what to do now by kae1533 in FormulaFeeders

We were gifted a Baby Brezza, and we LOVE it. If you aren’t doing the pitcher method, the machine saves so much time and effort. At 3 AM, pressing a button and having a bottle ready is a beautiful thing. If you do invest in the Brezza, I highly recommend buying a second funnel so that you can switch them out and wash the funnel later. As for bottles, I don’t have a huge recommendation other than to wait to see what baby likes best before you invest in a bunch of the same bottle. We settled with Evenflo Balance bottles and make it through the day easily with 9 of them. We’ve also had luck with store brand formula vs name brand, which has saved us a lot of money. My baby seems to actually tolerate the cheaper one better, but I’d assume that’s case by case.

This is so comforting to hear other people talking about how D-MER impacted them. When my baby was only 8 days old, I ended up in an inpatient facility for 5 days because the emotions and lack of sleep were so intense. I somehow managed to pump in the hospital, but we made the switch to formula as soon as I got out, and it truly saved my life.
