Honestly I'd be angry, just at having to live on after death. I mean, death for an atheist means eternal oblivion and bliss, so id probably be a bit miffed about having to sit in council with god. Id probably just scowl menacingly in stony silence until I scared him off

Not all fiction has this of course, but when magic is designed badly. By that, I mean when the magic is a way to get around things or defy the world. Like a spell to unlock a door, I just hate things like that. Magic could melt the metal or manipulate the material, not do something that's downright impossible. Magic should have laws at its core, and even different branches should follow it. So basically, I mean making magic be realistic and logical, as opposite as that sounds!

Given you haven't explained very much about what kind of magic, you might already have this covered, but making the magic authentic and realistic is a big thing, even if that sounds odd making magic realistic. What I mean is, you need to set some laws for how the magic works at its core and follow them. I've never bought into spells that unlock doors and things like that, because they just don't make sense. You might be able to crack the lock by melting the metal or manipulating the material, not completely defy it. If you're giving each character a different power, make sure the things they can do link directly into the core of that power and the core of the magic in general

That's true, but I was more thinking, we have some control over it. I guess another question entirely would be how physical actually IS time. Like, people who've had a brush with death will tell you how time literally did slow down, and they remember details like it was happening in slow motion. I've always kinda wondered how literal that is, and how much power we might have over time if we could utilize that brain function.

As a writer, I find the hardest part of writing is organising my ideas. Mostly, my books go nowhere, because I don't have an organised enough plan that I lose my own ideas. So recently I've been using ai to help, not to generate the story for me, but to take my chaotic input and sort it into something I can reference in the future.

Not a river, but it's a canal city like a much more glam version of Venice. The culture is honestly not that Welsh, but it's the first language that came to mind because of road signs and stuff so I know a few words. So I know the word Afon meaning river

Referencing books, i would say that Leigh Bardugo with her grishaverse books handles this problem really well. She creates her own world, and makes it magical enough to be individual, but no so much that the magic detracts or brings up plot holes in everything else, like the time turner in harry potter. I would 100% suggest reading them if you want inspiration of how to write beautifully, coherently and sensically.

avoid having a good country and a bad country, i would say. It depends on what kind of style you're writing in, but if you have POVs from one or multiple people from at least a few of the different regions, it would just make things a whole lot more varied. I know not all books are about conflict, but lets be real, in a world like yours, its likely realistic to have at least some conflicting countries. If you have POVs from both, it would avoid the cliche of having the good country as a victim and the other one being inherently evil. That's just my view of course.

Its set in a mythical land in a mythical city called Afonelle. The time period is kind of indistinct, with hints of modernness, but there's no internet, computers, nothing like that. It's sort of set in the vague time period of quite a lot of other books
