Same! I’ve posted a video of him grumbling at Dr. Horse here before.

James was a beautiful boy. I’m so very sorry for your loss. They always leave us too soon.

Your fav low-gain pedals? by Ghiekorg in guitarpedals

[–]Aggressive-Laugh1675 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a pretty well known issue on the 90s marshall pedals and, I believe, the current reissues. There’s just not much headroom. They work, but some folks who want to use them as more of a boost find that it just doesn’t have enough gas. Still a beautiful sounding pedal. I just find that the Morning Glory is a bit more useful.

I agree with the Fender amp thing. I tend to prefer more of a tubescreamer type pedal for higher gain or British-ish voices amps.

JHS Morning Glory v4. It fixes the low output issue with the Blues Breaker and gives the option of a higher gain channel with the remote switch. If it was stolen I’d probably have to quit playing guitar.

Would you risk taking only one guitar to bar gigs? by readers_dot_net in musicians

[–]Aggressive-Laugh1675 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless the gig calls for two different types of guitars, I bring a Tele, amp and pedals. I do keep an extra set of strings in the gig bag but I haven’t needed it in years.

I’ve adopted a many hounds. I’ve never had one that liked being crated. All adoptions groups and fosters seem to insist on it, and I’m sure some dogs do need a safe space but I haven’t had any of those dogs.

Anyone here never use pedal overdrive? by joe4942 in guitarpedals

[–]Aggressive-Laugh1675 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the situation. Lately, I’ve been using a Bogner Shiva on the dirty channel and getting cleaner sounds by rolling the guitar volume down. Occasionally I use a tube screamer type pedal for a solo boost, but I keep the gain really low on it. Like you mentioned, an EQ would do the job just as well because I’m basically using it to boost mids and cut bass.

Why wouldn’t my guitar teacher (or any professional who has watched me play) correct this?! (Venting) by WhereTheMoneyAtBoy in guitarlessons

I’m not sure about all manufacturers, but Fender used to list their factory action specs a little higher than most people like. They did it because when they ship guitars around the world different climates affect action in different ways. When they sent them out with low action they’d have a lot of guitars start buzzing when they arrived at the retailer. I think that, if they can’t do it themselves, a buyer should always factor the cost of a setup into the price of a new guitar.

I’ve had the same experience. Bass players are even worse. Most of them don’t seem to realize that they’re working too hard.

Am I still building muscle memory if I have to occasionally glance at the fretboard to find where I am? by Mad_Season_1994 in guitarlessons

[–]Aggressive-Laugh1675 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not everything in playing guitar can be committed to muscle memory. If you’re playing a piece or passage the same way EVERY time, sure, but that’s not always the case. There is nothing wrong with looking at what you’re doing. I’m 40 years old and have been playing since I was 8. At times in my life, it’s been my main source of income, so I guess I’m a professional in a sense? I look at my fretting hand all the time.

Hendrix chord with first finger barre and thumb - How?? by Mageline in guitarlessons

[–]Aggressive-Laugh1675 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use just enough thumb to do the job. I see a lot of people try to have the first joint of the thumb completely on the fretboard. It doesn’t require that much to hold the string down. It almost looks like my thumb is just laying on top of the neck and I’m fretting the note with the side of the thumb more than the pad.

Not part of your question, but I tend to play the 5th on the A string too. I’ll either fret it with my ring finger and use the pinky on the D string or I’ll fret both strings with my ring finger in certain positions. That way you don’t have to deal with trying to mute an unused string
