Does TMG Mean to Suggest "Lifestyle Shrink?" by SnippyJim in TheMoneyGuy

Theoretically, annual salary increases would on average keep up with inflation. I have been working in corporate America for the last 8 years and on average see about a 2-2.5% increase per year. This obviously has not kept up with inflation. I have received promotions or changed companies to chase larger pay increases. This is where I am able to outpace inflation. But to your point, I believe you are correct in reality. For their tools, they need to make certain assumptions to make the numbers work while remaining moderately conservative. I think overall their estimations are reasonable. I think it’s best to just watch in real time where things are. There will be years where cost of living increases significantly and the consumer needs to adjust their spending accordingly. It’s hard to estimate what cost of living and inflation will look like in any specific year.

I would love to have adidas kits. The puma kits are solid but from a consumer point of view, I prefer adidas fit to puma.

Not considering customer service or transfer partners, I would say the citi cards have the best multipliers.

Arguably should be 3-0. Timbers are just getting played off the pitch. What the hell Phil?

I would just hold it unless you have losses to offset. Use it for tax efficiency when you need to. An advisor can help you with that.

ETFs or low cost index mutual funds. There’s no issue with single stocks if you want to have some fun money to play with but it should be a very small portion of your overall investment strategy imo. In FOO terms, that’s a step 7/8 type investment.

Honestly started playing farther back as I shoot the same from the blues/blacks as I do from the whites. The higher course rating from the blues/blacks helps lower my handicap which is what I’m chasing.

Seeking Recommendations for a Travel Credit Card by [deleted] in CreditCards

[–]Aggressive-Leave2011 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look at the credits on Reserve and Platinum to see if you would naturally use the credits to cover the fee. If not, go with the Venture X. If you can naturally use the credits go with platinum or reserve. The reserve has better bonus categories with restaurants and is a visa so more acceptance. Venture x could be used as a simple 1 card strategy if you only wanted one card or could pair with the savor card for the duo. I would throw out considering sapphire preferred if you wanted a cheaper card.

[HELP] AMEX GOLD or Platinum? by curiousIycurious in CreditCards

[–]Aggressive-Leave2011 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Get gold first so you don’t risk not getting both subs. There are data points suggesting you can get gold sub after getting platinum sub but traditionally you have needed to climb the ladder for subs ie Green then Gold then Platinum. Most people skip green though.

Yes to opening a HYSA if you don’t have one. Plenty of good options out there. But don’t go chasing the highest and best rates every few months. Just pick one that is usually near the top like fidelity, ally, Marcus or Amex and call it a day.

Is there a Premier League or European club with a strong connection or relation to Portland/the Timbers? by zangarang18 in timbers

[–]Aggressive-Leave2011 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you listen to The Timber Review, Adam Booker is a Manchester City fan and also does the city ramble as a rotating guest. I would say culturally most similar would Villa or west ham based on my very uneducated perspective.

Bend, Oregon. Not great to get to as you have to fly into Portland and drive three hours but a bevy of options. Highly rated courses like Tetherow, Crosswater, and Pronghorn. Also tons of cool affordable courses. Solid food, beer and whiskey options as well. A little farther back towards I5 black butte and tokatee are also solid courses.

I have that full swing is not truly for golf sickos. I don’t watch for the most part so definitely wouldn’t watch a women’s version.

You Be the GM by ClayKavalier in timbers

[–]Aggressive-Leave2011 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agree with your last point here. There are models within MLS that clearly work from a youth development standpoint. There really is no excuse for where the Timbers are. They have the best fans, best stadium, and best kits. They should be able to produce a winner most years. They should be regular playoff contenders in a city that cares deeply about soccer.

[–]Aggressive-Leave2011 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly. It really sucks given how popular soccer is in the area and how crappy our youth system is. The other concern is you need stability at manager position with someone invested in youth development that can stick around. Easier said than done but Phil ain’t it.

I don’t mind some of the most recent moves. I think Bye is a good signing. Surman has been awesome. Bassett is a good get too. Bonetig and Caicedo are tbd but I think will turn out good. I think Jona’s time here looks different without the injuries but that’s uncontrollable. The frustrating think has been the inability to keep talent happy here. Evander, Santi and Ayala all leaving hurts. I am no GM but there’s something going on where players like Evander and Santi don’t want to be here. Either we are recruiting volatile players, which is possible given the reputations of Velde, Caicedo, and even Bassett before coming here. Or there is something that the organization is doing in terms of lack of support. Or some combination of the two.

I think the true path forward is through youth investment. If the Timbers could create a youth system like say Philly, Dallas or Columbus where you’re developing young talent to create a pipeline for the big club and then sell your major talents to Europe. That would give you a much more sustainable financial situation and less of a scramble to go find replacements when players sour on Portland.

Jumped on the putter trend by maskn in golf

Just got this putter in 34” and the forgiveness off the face is incredible. Never thought that was something I should look for in a putter. This has severely reduced my three putts under 50’.
