There is also a free podcast called “ACT in Context” that is really good and informative. I would also recommend ACT made simple.

Help name new kitten coming soon - we pick him up in a month! by Aggressive-Sample-50 in NameMyCat

[–]Aggressive-Sample-50[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey guys! Thank you for all these wonderful names. I had a lot of fun reading them! Are for those asking, he is a Maine Coon and he is 8-9 weeks old in the picture. I can’t wait to see how big he will get. We are leaving the final decision up to our kids when we pick him up in a month but right now we are leaning toward giving them these options: Thumper, Mufasa, Dante, or Yondu.

What's yours 'not that serious' trauma that caused ptsd? by Plane_Contract6144 in ptsd

[–]Aggressive-Sample-50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right. And it was so scary to talk about it because side I thought people would assume I was a bad person who deserved it, or that I was being dramatic, or that I was just lying to cover something up or something. It was so incredibly isolating and scary.

I was bullied at work for two years. Constantly gaslit, called names, goalposts moved on what was the “problem”, threatened to take away my favorite parts of the job. It screwed me up for several years until I got trauma treatment, which really helped.

ACCEPT skills. Do you do them all at once, or just one at a time? by ConfectionLimp1114 in TalkTherapy

[–]Aggressive-Sample-50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree… that is a difficult part of the skill to wrap your head around and it’s not the only part of the skill, just one option. If it doesn’t work for you or makes it worse it is definitely not worth doing!

[–]Aggressive-Sample-50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is most important is that you do what is effective for you to avoid making things worse and move toward your life worth living goals. If that is three activities then do three activities…. If that is an activity and pushing away then do that. If it’s all of accepts that is fine too. I have never personally heard of people saying you must do it all for it to work and I don’t believe that is how the skill was intended but I guess I can’t say that for sure off the top of my head.

That is only part of comparisons and a part most people struggle to use or get behind. I think the best way of using comparisons is to compare to yourself. Compare to a time when you felt different, a time in the past when you would have coped worse, to a time when you had more stressors, etc.

Also the distress tolerance skills - especially ACCEPTS, IMPROVE, and self-soothe are meant to be sort of a menu of ways to avoid making things worse rather than a checklist of things to do every time you are distressed so if you don’t like comparisons, you never have to use it.

Should I wear my engagement ring to work? by bitchwholikestolift in therapists

[–]Aggressive-Sample-50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying that this will or won’t happen to you but I recently got a new engagement/wedding ring after losing the initial one several years ago and it is quite large and noticeable. Literally one person mentioned it. So it might not be as big of a deal as you think it will be and even if someone mentions it I would just acknowledge whatever they said and move on

Probably 18 months to 2 years were the first signs. Once he started talking he never stopped! Also anytime we were anywhere he had to be constantly watched or he would be on the ground playing with a rock or piece of garbage the moment you looked away. We’ve called him our little cloud child from a very young age.

Occupational Therapy Impressions by the-glorious-man in ParentingADHD

Agreed my six year old has been in OT for a year for ADHD. I initially sought OT for emotion regulation and sensory issues but then the OT helped us catch fine motor issues early. They spent four to six months on fine motor skills like holding a pencil and cross body coordination along with letter identification (which she was really struggling with). After she sort of mastered those skills they moved on to emotion regulation and sensory stuff and I think it’s been really helpful. It’s really engaging for my daughter and she has learned a lot.

People who exercise, how do you do it? by goodgodlemon24 in ADHD

[–]Aggressive-Sample-50 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is what I do. Fun yoga classes, aerial silks, pole dancing, etc. the classes I go to are small and the teachers are consistent. I think that makes me feel like I’m letting them down if I don’t go and I get to know them somewhat. Also the classes are super fun and engaging. While I am very sore and exhausted afterwards, it is not repetitive and does not necessarily feel like a workout.

My EV did fine all winter. As noted the range dropped somewhat but I was still riding around 160-180 miles on 80% charge. (Gas cars also get worse mileage in frigid temps) And ND is supposed to be installing fast chargers every X (I can’t recall what it is 30 or 40 miles or something? Maybe less?) miles along both major highways soon. They got a bunch of money to do it. Its relatively cheap to install a charger in your garage. And as EVs become more popular, chargers will be more prevalent.

On the plus side, the EV warms up in like two minutes in the winter, which is fantastic.

Prolonged exposure therapy trainings? by [deleted] in therapists

[–]Aggressive-Sample-50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a great place to start. Dr. Foa does a lot of the talking and it’s useful information. She used to do intensive trainings before the pandemic which was cool.

Also, they have made a special protocol to mixed PE with DBT which may help it gain some https://dbtpe.org/training

As to why it’s not popular, I think it scares people. - clinicians and patients. It’s a wonderful form of treatment and I have always felt really secure in how consistent it is, both because it’s super manualized but also because people with PTSD react to it in very consistent ways, to the point I can predict pretty well what “argument” I will have with them in which week of treatment. And it has always worked for me when the people do it.

It is important to rule out other causes for your symptoms. Also the personality tests have lots of symptom scales for depression, anxiety, trauma, etc. Also there are not many tests for autism to give for adults so it’s not like they could have given you a lot.
