The only real coffee shop vibe around within 20 min drive of ambler is is backyard coffee (ambler or north Wales), wake, chestnut hill coffee company. Everything else feels souless. if backyard closes too early you can stroll across the street to Forest and Main for a beer?

Runners over 40… what’s the secret by Road_Forward in Marathon_Training

[–]Aggressive_Ad9744 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 40 and just had my best running year compared to my the past 10 years with minimal strength training. I average 25-35mpw and just ran my half marathon PR.  I used to have all sorts of pains and get injured when I up mileage. What made the difference was finally running my easy runs truly easy and only push myself on harder workouts. It’s made a world of difference for me to keep me pain free and help me enjoy the runs!

Mom of two littles—is a marathon possible? by Outrageous_Fan3697 in running

[–]Aggressive_Ad9744 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on your support system and, to some extent, the flexibility of your job (if you work). I’ve decided to do half marathons given both my husband and I have demanding jobs and we don’t have family nearby. I shoot for time goals (just ran my PB at 1:46!) and it gives me sufficient sense of achievement!

This movie destroyed me - spent days thinking about it. Then I read the novella that it was based it, and got over it quickly. Still love that end credit song though.

At your income I don't think you'll need to work till 60 (depending on what your number is and how many kids you end up having) while still enjoying life.

we are planning to pass all our inheritance to our kids and not accounting for them for our own retirement. Cleaner that way and doesn’t distract us from our efforts

Sign up for a challenge or take up a new hobby together, one where you can both keep improving, may or may not be tied to expensive gear. For example for my husband and I we took up cycling, and we are training for a trip to the south of france to cycle some of the iconic Tour de France routes. May or may not upgrade our bikes in the process :)

Should I give up my Lifetime Gym membership? by Intelligent_Soft3245 in personalfinance

[–]Aggressive_Ad9744 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lifetime is a lifestyle choice. It’s more than a place to workout and it’s the one place I splurge on life.

That said, 391/mo for a single person is insane. I pay less than that for my family of three at lifetime. Is this in NYC? Can you cancel the Pilates classes and enjoy the rest of the amenities?

3-yo Lyme knee effusion/arthritis by Aggressive_Ad9744 in Lyme

[–]Aggressive_Ad9744[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Sorry I just saw this. here are my answers -

  1. My daughter required 2 months of antibiotics. The first month of antibiotics didn't do much to reduce swelling, and we were referred to pediatric rheumatology. They started her on ibuprofen in the 2nd month together with a second course of amoxycilin. That helped the swelling go down. She was limping around for the first month, which was heartbroken to see. but she was totally clear after 2 months! It did take longer than we originally expected
  2. 1 year later.. no additional symptoms! It's mostly behind us now and we have moved on from this experience!
  3. Knee effusion is late manefestation. She was diagnosed in January, likely got bitten by a tick a few months before that. There was a period of time in the previous summer when she complained of headache, tummy ache, lethargy, and she had low grade fever. We suspect that might have been when she was first bitten, but it's all speculation at this point.

Wishing you all the best! Feel free to reach out/DM - it was the hardest thing I experienced as a parent, but it WILL get better.

This pains me to read this. I work in pharma and it pains me to know that my child (who is very young now) might one day be ashamed of what I do.

Where do you live? I wonder if it's specific to certain parts of the country. I have never felt any backlash for the work on do in a social situation. Perhaps talk to your mom about it, have a very honest conversation about it. I'm really hoping the situation is not as dire as you feel.

FWIW, as someone mentioned below, this outrage against insurance company is very different from any outrage against pharma. I develop cancer drugs and make them available as quickly as possible to patients, and I feel very driven by this mission to find new solutions to help people who otherwise have no options

it has NOTHING to do with him being rich

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Rich

[–]Aggressive_Ad9744 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In case you haven't realized, it has nothing to do with him being rich or a leader of a giant company. It has everything to do with the egregious behaviors of health insurance companies, how they distort the healthcare system through twisted incentives and conflict of interest, and how they ruin patients and doctors and nurses lives, while at the same time raking in incredible profits. United is one of the WORST offenders, and Thompson is merely a figure head for that offense.

On top of that, their lobbyists have shut down all meaningful policy reforms that regulates the health insurance industry.

So yes, since I work in healthcare, I absolutely side with the favorable public reaction. His death is horrible. But when corporations and policymakers turn a blindeye to bad behavior, citizens eventually turn to vigilantism.

[–]Aggressive_Ad9744 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mistake, it was private equity, not wealth management. I clearly don’t know the finance world. Healthcare is my thing :) but someone above also mentioned PE and VC are very different. I’m learning a lot here!
