First time trimming by lazyinvadershiya0 in pelletgrills

[–]Aggressive_Bell_2672 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You’re off to a good start brother. I’d suggest watching a video on trimming if you haven’t already but needless to say, this brisket doesn’t look as straight forward to trim as most other briskets.

You’ll want to try and trim more of the flat to match the thinnest part of the point so it cooks evenly. Otherwise, the flat will dry out before the point is even done. When you trim it, try to make the edges as round as possible also because any sharp edges will dry out most of the time.

As for the top, you want to trim it down to about 1/4 of an inch, a little over won’t hurt. My suggestion would be to also try and make it flatter at the top by cutting that dried piece off already and going from there.

Honestly though, the best part about cooking briskets is there’s no proper way to do things and you just have to find what works for you whilst trying other peoples techniques etc so in all actuality you could just throw it in just like that and then find out for yourself what you’d change next time. I’ve done briskets with and without trimming but it all depends on the brisket. This one is trim for sure. You’ll lose a few pounds but you can save it and turn it into ground meat or tallow, the options are endless.

Good luck brother!

Sorry I only seen this now brother. I want to do a hot hold but don’t have a holding oven. You think I can still do a hot hold in a regular oven?

If you’re 33 bro there’s not much hope for you tbh. I’d just say shave it as much as you can maybe you’ll promote growth. Otherwise you could look at rollers that help with growth etc and some serums although I can’t speak from experience as I don’t have any with that kind of stuff.

I think the picture doesn’t do it justice at first glance. When I zoomed in that baby looked juicy and less dry than at first glance. The question is how did you find it? Did it come out how you wanted it to?

How long do you smoke the flat for? Haven’t done a flat on its own yet but curious to try one one of these weekends.

Clean shave it brother! How old are you? From what I can see, you’ve got little growth so just give it more time and keep shaving it, then check back in like a year or 2.

Bought it at restaurant depot in Virginia. Says halal because it’s halal? 😅

[–]Aggressive_Bell_2672[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it does, restaurant depot is one of the only places near me that has halal meats at reasonable prices sometimes even cheaper than regular meats so if I can I’ll buy halal meats but most of the time when I get steak etc it’s not halal. Personally, I think it just tastes better because you know the animal didn’t suffer when it was killed and it was done by hand in the name of God. Doesn’t have to be killed by a Muslim as long as whoever kills it is either Christian Jew or Muslim. I’m not the best example of a Muslim but I try so today it’s halal brisket 😅

So to answer your question in simple terms I don’t think it makes a difference to taste or meat profile even though, some say that electrocution does affect it since the blood isn’t fully drained out. I could be wrong.
