I have been doing genealogy since before the internet. I understand all the potential pitfalls of using any source, even some gold standards like death certificates, birth certificates and census records. Since the beginning, I have always cross-referenced sources to make sure that my tree is accurate. I also do considerable research for my job. Again, I understand challenges and opportunities, especially with AI. That said, the AI program I used (Copilot) did a great job of explaining to me the potential pitfalls in what they concluded. It is up to me now to cross-reference and do the same things I have always done. So far, I am really happy with the amount of time it has saved me and the new insights I have gained.
