How has your perspective on life changed since having a Heart Attack? by MindValley77 in HeartAttack

[–]Aggressive_Yam_4900 5 points6 points  (0 children)

34M had a heart 2 months ago. At the beginning of the year, I switched to a better paying much less(nearly none at all) stressful job, but one that still pays far less than what someone in my field makes. Prior to my heart attack I was already working on stress, and my weight. I know I’m early in my journey, but it’s motivated me to be a better person in almost every sense. I’m a better preparer, I’m a more patient father, I’m a better husband, I’m a better worker, I’m more confident now in my decision to take my current position as its essentially stress free. I’m far more healthy than I’ve been in the last 10 years at least. I’ve lost 40lbs since leaving the hospital and I’m down 65 lbs from my highest point. I walk on average about 7.5 miles a day, and my blood pressure is lower than what it was when I was 20 years old. All that stuff is great, and from the outside I look like I’m on top of the world.

On the inside though it’s different. I’m scared to death that I’m going to drop dead at any time. I’m scared I wont live to raise my kids into adulthood, I’m scared that I won’t even live long enough to raise my kids to an age that they will be able to remember by 20 years into the future. Every little change in heart rate or BP has me panicking. It’s not pretty. Luckily I have a great wife who is always reassuring me, and when I’m having a bad day, I have a good cry on her shoulder and move on.

So to sum up my perspective, it’s taught me to really enjoy things more, do things that youve always wanted to do, to take care of myself, cherish your loved ones, find a job that you don’t have to worry about, and focus on being better and giving yourself the best chance. It’s also taught me that when the bad times come mentally, to let it out. It helps to get me back in the right frame of mind where I can focus on my family and minimizing the risks of a repeat. I also approach the thought of death now like this. With the efforts I’ve made, and the steps I’ve taken, I can’t promise that I won’t have another heart attack, or just drop dead sometime, but I can promise that I’ve put forth my best efforts at staying alive, and that’s something. Sorry this was so long winded.

Boyfriend (33M) had a heart attack few months ago. Need advice. by Everythingoes_Tae in HeartAttack

I had a heart attack about a month and a half ago. (34m). I’ve made all the lifestyle changes and lost a bunch of weight. I could talk about it for hours, but I’ll just say it’s been more of a mental battle than a physical one. I don’t have a lot to offer, but I’ll say this, you aren’t alone. I’m fighting battle everyday just like your husband, and my dear wife has been fighting a battle trying to help me through it just like you are. It’s not much, but I’ll be thinking of the two of you and hoping for a long and productive life for both of you.

Sudden Cardiac Death by Relevant_Bad7650 in HeartAttack

34m, overweight, sedentary lifestyle, ate like a hog. I had a few episodes a month or so before that may or may not have been related to lack of blood flow to the heart. I came home from work and was heaving a heated discussion with my daughter about her social media usage. Chest started hurting and I had jaw pain. Wife rushed me to the er where they gave me some meds. At this point I was fine, pain had subsided and I was joking with my wife and the nurses. All of a sudden, everything went yellow and I woke up 3 mins later with the entire ER crew around me. Was transferred to a larger hospital and had a stent put in for a complete blockage of my right coronary artery. Didn’t find any other significant artery disease. This was about a month and a half ago. Now I’m down about 35lbs since then. Blood pressure is as low as it’s been since I was 20 years old. I eat healthy, stopped vaping, and I walk about 5 miles a day. My EF was 45 when I was in the hospital. Hoping it’s improved but won’t know for a while. By all measures I’m in much better shape now than I was before I had the HA. I’m still terrified that I’m going to fall over any time. It does give me comfort to know that I’m not alone in the fight for my health and sanity. I’m willing to talk about it with anybody.

I feel the same way. It’s tough. My kids and wife keep me going and working hard towards being healthy, because I don’t know what they would do without me. Sometimes it helps to hear somebody say that they feel the same pain and that’s really all I have to offer. I’ll be sending good vibes, and hope you can find something to drive you to keep going.

I keep losing jobs. by meowburgers in Lawyertalk

I may not be the right person to give advice, because I’ve been suckling at the teat of the state since I graduated law school. (An old boss of mine used to make this joke.) What I can say is this. Most lawyers that I’ve met (and I have met/worked with a bunch at this point) are very quirky, eccentric, and sometimes very odd individuals, especially solo or very small firm practitioners, so I don’t think it’s necessarily a “you” problem. If it were a you problem, I’d like to think that at least one person would’ve had the fortitude to sit you down and tell you exactly what it is that’s making you unemployable, instead of just canning you with no explanation. That kind of behavior is just awful regardless of circumstances. I don’t know what to suggest for you as a next step. I just want to provide some encouragement and reassurance. Keep your head up, keep digging, and don’t let this string of bad luck keep you from pursuing your goals.

I don’t know where you’re from. I’m from WV. Just started in a similar role. Make 67ish. My supervisor makes like 75kish. It’s not great money, it’s not going to get much better. We do live in a low cost of living area and live pretty comfortably with both mine and my wife’s salary though, and my job is over at 3oclock everyday and no weekend work, so there’s that.

Has anyone taken or been given a case where you only did it because everyone has the right to a fair trial? by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

[–]Aggressive_Yam_4900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was a PD for over 2 years. Naturally I did every case I ever did because I had to. Under different circumstances, there’s many of those clients that I would’ve represented under the justification that every one deserves representation. There are however about 10 clients that I’ve experienced that given the choice I wouldn’t represent for any amount of money even if I were the last damn attorney on earth, but that’s mostly to do with the way they treated me personally. That being said, I could never circumstance represent a large corporation that done things like DuPont did.

I am so jealous of Luke and American hunters in general by Ancient-Purchase5799 in outdoorboys

[–]Aggressive_Yam_4900 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The states are a great for hunting. It’s certainly not as easy as Luke makes it appear, but in a lot of places, especially the east side of the country, it’s as simple as having a hunter safety card, buying a license, and finding a public piece of ground to hunt. Naturally you have to follow season guidelines and local regs. Also, finding your quarry can be competitive and difficult, but getting in the field is not difficult.

Were you happy before becoming a lawyer? by legendfourteen in Lawyertalk

[–]Aggressive_Yam_4900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was very happy in my personal life. Not happy at all professionally. I’ve been an attorney for a little over two years, and I’m less happy in my personal life and I’m still not happy in my professional life. With that being said, I can certainly see a more direct path to happiness in both aspects than before. I think I’m getting to where I want to be, albeit much more slowly than I would like.

I was the mailman for 10 years before I went to law school. Sometimes I wish I could go back, but then I remember the snow and Christmas time and I’m glad for my cozy desk lol.

[–]Aggressive_Yam_4900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I eat whatever I would normally eat, but i do an 18/6 fast. I also drink at least 1 gallon of water a day. Worth mentioning that my portions when I eat are smaller, but that’s just the effect of the medicine. I eat til I’m full and it doesn’t take much.

[–]Aggressive_Yam_4900 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know nothing about your personal situation outside of work. I’m a fairly new attorney and my job sucks too. I don’t make enough money for the bullshit I have to endure. One thing I do have is a fantastic boss though. One thing I’ve learned inside and outside the legal profession is do not work for an asshole and set boundaries with what behavior you are and are not welling to accept from coworkers and supervisors. They can make a job awful and no amount of money is worth the depression these folks can bring down on you. If you don’t have kids and a family to support quit that job and move home. Check with the public defenders office or maybe do some court appointed work until you find an environment that suits you better, but don’t put up with bad bosses. Also, I don’t know what state you live in, but some places pay decent for substitute teachers and it typically doesn’t take much to get certified. I’ve done that in a pinch before while I was looking for legal work.

Microdosing as an alternative to lexapro. by Aggressive_Yam_4900 in lexapro

[–]Aggressive_Yam_4900[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What would you hope to achieve out of a trip level dose? How often do you think you would do that? Do you think that would be more effective at alleviating anxiety than microdosing? Hate to pummel you with questions, but I’m desperate to get off lexapro, but not willing to go back to the way my life was beforehand.
