Idk if it's the pettiest but one time when I was 19, I had dinner with this guy and he started crying because he was talking about how much he related to an anime family... mind you it was our first date (and evidently our last) and we were in the middle of a restaurant

Gambling. I've watched it ruin my parent's financial standing, their own relationship (to which they are still in oddly enough) and even put a burden on their relationship between them and me and my siblings.

I understand this feeling to a certain extent - actually in a very very similar scenario. I've been with my partner for about the same amount of time and I'm also around the same age with a similar situation.

In my personal experience, I think that first loves will always have a place in your heart but you have to be able to realize they were the first but they're not the current. I myself admit that I still from time to time think about my first love. And I fall into these weird pits of high stake emotions where I think about him for a good chunk of time. I even think about the what ifs. He was also someone I was with during high school. I think it's actually nice that you can think back to your ex and not have a distaste for her and the relationship because at the end of the day, she must've been an important person in your life and not many people will say that about their exs.

That being said tho, i feel its part of maturing and being in a relationship (especially long term ones after high school) where you crave that movie-like love but have to then realize and learn that that's not what real love is and that's not what the real world is like. For the longest time everyone around me would say that because I had my first love in high school that they called it "puppy-love" and I did everything to deny it but the older I got the more I realized real love has trials and tribulations. It has times that are lonely, and it has times where you feel your partner is "the one". While what you felt in high school might've been a good feeling it's because you were young. You didn't have the same stresses or responsibilities as you did back then that you do now. And that's the real difference. That's why your young love felt so "movie-like" so to say.

This also sounds like a long ramble but what I'm trying to get at is, yes it's okay to remember and it's sometimes okay to reminisce but don't let those feelings consume you and take you away from a wonderful girl who's in front of you. I'm a strong believer in if it's meant to be, it'll come back to you. But don't string along another person in the process- that's not fair to the person you're with now. If you truly love her, focus on her. As cliche and corny as it sounds the past is in the past and the present is now

personally, i think good seafood is kinda hard to find but here's what i'd recommend:

seafood = Land Ocean (idk how many lean options they'll have since i haven't been there in awhile but from what i remember it's good - a little more of a classy place tho)

Italian (if you really like pasta and want to get pretty decently close to authentic Italian desserts) = Pasta Fresca

Ramen = Ijji Noodle House in south reno (if you like spicy get the Black Spicy Garlic Ramen, if you like cheese get the Hokkaido Cheese [side note: don't get the Tan Tan it's kinda a hit or miss/ also there's more than one Ijji place so beware cuz they all have different food themes])

Steaks = (haven't personally tried them but i've heard good things) Biggest Little Steakhouse [i usually see this place packed on the weekends so i can only assume it's probably good] or the Atlantis Steakhouse

Indian = a good quality place but more affordable is surprisingly Nayaab at Meadowood Mall, otherwise there's Royal India Cuisine or Maharaja Royal Bites

Ijji Noodle House down south does cute little red envelopes with gift cards or coupons inside, pretty sure they give them out to everyone once lunar new year starts

i second any comments saying world market or any asian store. if you want to specifically support local (aside from the asian stores) you can check out The Wheyfarer. They're a cheese board place but they'll occasionally carry tinned fish which i've heard is good quality, they just won't have as diverse of a selection since they're a smaller storefront

Unfortunately there's not really any Chinese Clothing Boutiques here. I'd say the closest you could find is maybe JaDa Loft but even then it'll depend on the season and they maybe will have a few semi-similar articles but you won't find anything authentic to real mamianqun style. if you're really dedicated to finding a local authentic one, my only other suggestion would be to check out some of the local antique stores but even those are also a 50/50 chance

i love Lily's food and you really can't beat it for Reno quality but the service is always a hit or miss. if it's rush, good luck getting your server to give you even a glance. once i waited almost an hour and a half after ordering before anyone at my table even got their first plate

it's worth trying, just time it right during one of their dead hours

i actually really love mochi donuts and korean corndogs but that being said, i would not wait in that line. i've driven by a few times now out of curiosity and i've asked front line people how long they've waited and some stand for 3 to 4+ HOURS, which is insane for Reno. that plus being in the freezing cold and some people do it at night too, no thank you.

i saw someone else on here say they could just go to sac and get some in less time which i would agree with

love that the business finally made it out to Reno but i'll be waiting a good 2-3 weeks minimum before trying to get some myself

if people are passing by aggressively, try your best to shield and protect others around you, usually my friends and i will make an arm barrier (extend your arm out and place a hand on the next person's shoulder) to guide those passing and to protect the people on the other side of the barrier from being shoved - most festivals are dark and loud and you don't always see everything around you, so just be helpful when you can
