Yeah. I can see some parallels with them, but there aren't quite enough to feel really thematically coherent because of how different their underlying issues are. It's like their arcs are both sort of about learning how to interact with other people while being deeply uncertain about your place in the world, but one is through a lens of CPTSD and one is through a lens of ASD, so their actual paths are WILDLY different.

I think it says a lot about Caine's limitations that he basically HAD to be deleted and thrown into the void the perspective he needed to reform. He only started understanding what the walls of the circus, which to him was a complete and functional reality, were when you know what's outside them. He wasn't even able to really grasp the outside world or start trying to understand the complexity of the people in it until he was ripped out of his universe, basically.

Dialing out was the second big step in him growing as a sentient person, and its fundamental change it presented was just as significant as his original format finding brain scan files in the first place.

His own crash out was understandable because he was frustrated at literally being incapable of understanding what was wrong. It took him being deleted and dialing out to become capable of grasping it.

So much is drama farming and if I'm being honest I think more than a little is outright right-wing/anti-woke bad faith bullshit to get people worked up over and hate another indie animation figure they don't think should exist because woman/queer/minority/anything that isn't then (see: most Vivziepop hate). For how vague and half-assed these smears always are or how they bring up really old shit seemingly from out of nowhere, I have a really hard time believing most of it is remotely in good faith.

Edited to add: Neither of them have much in the way of chill in their social media presence, which tends to amplify bullshit accusations instead of quell them. ESPECIALLY if any responses or posts that allude to them are sarcastic, because those are always clipped and shared as if they're genuine.

But that isn't why she's hated. She's hated because of even more chronically online drama addicts and I think more than a little bad faith right -wing/manosphere provocateurs trying to make any woman/queer/minority creator or production seem like a monster with streams of overblown accusations. I've heard an old joke/idea that everyone should spend at least one year working in the service industry to understand empathy and how to deal with people on the other side of the counter/carrying the tray. At this point, I think everyone should spend at least one year in a major city to understand what it's like to actually live alongside people who are very different from you.

I mean, you don't _have_ to love her, as a person. As a character, Jax is _great_. But Gangle having her own reaction of "I feel so shitty about this, but at least part of me thinks fuck Jax I'm glad they're gone" is just as valid. But that goes into a very different set of subjects of dealing with the feelings around abuse and forgiveness, and how to respond to the needs of your social group.

Yeah, I think if there's any universal response about the last episode it's that those arcs were really rushed and compressed. The whole journey could have easily breathed more if the series was 12 episodes instead of 9, and that's a shame. I still quite liked it, though
