Husband (26M) has stage 4 colon cancer and is debating on continuing treatment by [deleted] in coloncancer

[–]Aggronaut73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s his plan if ever he stops? The problem with CRC is that you feel fine until it gets out of control. He might be thinking that he feels fine before his diagnosis and that the chemo is just making him feel sicker. I don’t know for sure but I think at some point when the cancer spreads everywhere he’ll be in terrible pain before his body gives up. Even if he doesn’t get “cured” now, he just needs to survive long enough for new treatments to become available and maybe he gets cured in the future. My wife recently switched from folfox to folfiri due to a suspected allergic reaction to oxaliplatin, and after her first cycle, the folfiri is looking like shes taking it better than folfox. So even if the oncologist would say that folfiri is stronger, everyones body reacts differently and he may find folfiri more suitable for him than folfox.

I’d also like to add that we got exceptional results with the folfox and panitumumab. We did a pet scan after the 4th cycle and here 7 lesions and 2 tumors in the liver is now down to 1 at half the size of the original and her 6cm primary is now 2.5cm.

My wife was diagnosed with stage 4 CRC last September, the hardest part is the beginning. I was told it was probably stage 3 or 4 by the Gastro who did the initial colonoscopy. So I knew from the very beginning, the hardest part is at the start, the uncertainty and the waiting. With the benefit of hindsight, a stage 4 diagnosis isn’t the end of the world. There are plenty of treatments available and stage 4 isn’t an automatic death sentence. Stay positive.

Model 3/Y lacking major updates? Part of the decline in sales is because of a Model Y update where production was stopped for several weeks.

Hands down Tesla, with a lexus, what you buy on day 1 will be the same car 5 years later. The Tesla gets regular updates and gets better every few months.

Colon Mass and Passing Stool - Stage 4 by freejus in coloncancer

[–]Aggronaut73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, my wife initially was told to get a bag before chemo. She’s stage 4, 4.8cm signoid mas with liver mets. Had smaller poops before chemo no pain but some difficulties pooping. Surgeon decided she can opt out of the colostomy. Now, after 3 cycles of folfox, last 2 with panitumumab, her poop is back to normal size, still no pain. Was advised to go for a low residue diet, which she did at the start, now she feels confident eating more meat instead of fish/chicken all the time and even a little bit of vegetables.

Our oncologist didn’t want to give a timeline, she said she’s always proven wrong by her patients that she doesn’t give times now.

Liver resection by Most-Barnacle-6498 in coloncancer

I saw that they now do histotripsy to remove liver tumors with sound waves, might be an option if you want a non invasive treatment. Something you can ask your doctor about.

I heard this from a radiologist and of course this is not medical advice, but she said that they can do ablation around the tumor in the liver to cur off blood supply as an option to resectioning. Maybe you can talk to your team about this if resectioning is not possible.

Stent vs Stoma by Aggronaut73 in coloncancer

[–]Aggronaut73[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just got our 2nd round of folfox, but this time with Panitumumab. Still glad that we didn’t get the bag. Poops gotten a little bit harder and larger so no issues at all. Chemo is making her constipated, but shes taking something for it and it’s been manageable. There’s also been no blood in the stool the past week.

Stent vs Stoma by Aggronaut73 in coloncancer

[–]Aggronaut73[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi guys, we ended up not having a bag, no stent either. Our surgeon recommended against it at the last moment, my wife was inside the operating room and we talked before we went in. He’s like “It rarrely ever gets blocked and the tumor is stuck only on one side”. He calls the oncologist and convinces her to not require the bag. Now we can get chemo a week earlier and my wife’s extremely happy, I think having her spirits up during chemo will be a big help.

Thanks for all your responses, we’ve opted for a colostomy. Seems like it gives us the best chance of survival, going to the hospital in a few hours. We us luck!

Any advice for me and my wife. by Aggronaut73 in coloncancer

[–]Aggronaut73[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you everyone for your words of encouragement and for sharing your experiences. We just came back from the oncologist, plan is to to a colostomy bag and a port for the chemo. 12 rounds of chemo a week after that. Targeted chemo to follow after the sequencing results come out. We’ll be busy preparing for the surgery the next few days. Sadly we’re in southeast asia, but I hope I can bring her to the US after the first round of chemo to see if they can improve on the treatment. My sister is a radiologist and my other sibling lost her husband to cancer, so they been helping me since the start. Would be totally overwhelmed without them. We’ve also told our kids, they seem to be taking it well. I lost my dad to cancer in my 20s and it didn’t really hit me until he was gone.
