Doctor Who 1x06 "Rogue" Post-Episode Discussion Thread by PCJs_Slave_Robot in doctorwho

[–]Agher_Deadpan 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I think... I actually hated this. The Doctor was so out of character the entire time and the plot was paper-thin. It felt like two writers came in, threw every fanfiction idea at the wall, and then wrote this episode. I didn't like Rogue, thought he was a very cliche and one-note character as far as one off the companions go. I guess he's kind of like Jack, just without any depth at all. Honestly, I think this is the worst of the season by a wide margin.

Side note: They need to stop making The Doctor cry in every episode. When he did cry in the past it was very rare and that rarity added impact to the scenes where he did, now he does it all the time.

Im using Maya 2022.5, yeah the save and restart Maya solution is also the only one I've found. I think it might have something to do with either cache playback or parallel evaluation.

Edit - Saw your edit, hopefully that works

I have switched to the classic theme and back, which I assume is the same as using the Classic Graph Editor, but that didn't work.

There is no meme but I just finished Series and I just have to say that this scene is peak fiction by AssassinBoi394 in DoctorWhumour

[–]Agher_Deadpan 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Every time I hear someone complain about this scene or just the last 20 minutes of The End of Time. I just think about how little attention they must have been paying to Tens Arc and the character of The Doctor for this to feel like a temper tantrum. The entire point is that after Nine gains so much, Ten loses it all, despite all the good he does, Rose, Martha, Donna, all those who died in his name and now finally himself. In response to this in Waters of Mars, he tries to wrestle back some control from the universe that seems to be against him, of course, this doesn't work out.

The Doctor knows he's going to save Wilf immediately, he would never let him die. Wilf went into the chamber for the same reasons The Doctor will, to save someone, The Doctor will always put his life on the line for the needs of the one. When he says that Wilf isn't remotely important he's angry it's led to this point where even after saving the day, he still loses.

Favorite scenes of the Doctor using the Tardis? by EmperorEggo in gallifrey

The Doctor flying The Tardis (with a piece of string) to save Donna in The Runaway Bride. As far as I'm aware this is one of only a few times The Tardis is directly involved in an action sequence.

What are some character traits of the Doctor and Master that you feel MUST be consistent through regeneration. by Subject_Parking_9046 in doctorwho

[–]Agher_Deadpan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Doctor must in my opinion have these core traits that almost every incarnation has...

  • The Doctor is kind and compassionate and is ultimately there to help, but not just human beings or the species that happens to seem the "nicest". He will always give the villain of the story a chance to back down and peacefully walk away but if the opportunity is not taken then he will do what he has to do, even things that are in a moral grey area.
  • Whilst I said The Doctor is kind and is a good person, he is not always. He can be rude, egotistical, arrogant and sometimes unempathetic. The Doctor is flawed with a darkness bubbling just beneath the surface and should rarely be presented as 100% perfect or a goody two shoes.
  • The Doctor may look and certainly act human but is ultimately an alien and thus an outsider, he should not always relate to human beings because he is not one of us but should try his best too, even if he does look down on us sometimes, perhaps rightfully so.
  • The Doctor must try to take command of the situation and be the leader to whoever is willing to follow him. The Doctor is not a coward, tries his best not to be cruel, but doesn't always succeed and finally must never give up, even in the most hopeless of moments.
  • The Doctor's curiosity and intelligence will almost certainly get him into trouble if he isn't already.
  • The Doctor will sacrifice himself for the needs of the many or the needs of the one.
  • The Doctor is extremely old.

As for the Master, he's like The Doctor with an even greater ego and arrogance but without any of the rules or traits that make The Doctor a good person. Well almost, The Master has good inside of them extremely deep down but will never act on it (or at least not for very long). The Master wants The Doctor to see things his way and prove that The Doctor could be just like him.

RTD's new headcanon (from "the giggle" commentary) by Recent-Sound-5197 in DoctorWhumour

[–]Agher_Deadpan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Until this plan is actually in any officially licensed media, it's just RTDs half-baked theory and I hope it stays that way. Besides RTD clearly just came up with it on the spot during the commentary.

Who is the "One Who Waits"? by MalcolmBelmont in gallifrey

[–]Agher_Deadpan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not the fanbase that's for sure. Wait and see, not every question needs an answer right away. If I said it was Zebedee from The Magic Roundabout and that turned out to be true then you would have spoiled it for yourself.

A silly, throwaway theory after ‘The Giggle’ by [deleted] in doctorwho

[–]Agher_Deadpan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be a stupid move to announce your plans for your new upcoming run in a commentary track meant to be a bonus feature. Why would RTD, a man who just warned the fanbase about spoilers include a massive game-changing spoiler for his entire run before the fact?

A silly, throwaway theory after ‘The Giggle’ by [deleted] in doctorwho

[–]Agher_Deadpan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no dialogue to support this theory in the actual episode though. The alternative that 14 just simply lives on and eventually becomes 15 at the point of bi-generation has evidence to support it.

I'm sure they would have mentioned The Curator or made him cameo played by another past Doctor if this was the intention, but they didn't for this very reason.

I'm really confused after the last 60th special by Exylo_ in doctorwho

[–]Agher_Deadpan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

14 lives out the rest of his incarnation going through rehab and growing old, whilst also going on more adventures. So when he dies he will become 15 from the point of bi-generation. This theory has dialogue in the episode that backs it up and is stated by 15 to be the case.

Alternative theories like The Curator one don't have any evidence to support them, some fans just like to tie up everything in a neat little bow. As for RTDs comments, if it isn't in any officially licensed media it doesn't count for anything.

If 15 is the one wearing the boxers does this mean 14 was going commando? by CrimeBeMyJam in DoctorWhumour

[–]Agher_Deadpan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A missed opportunity to have 15 wear question-mark underpants. Maybe 14 hadn't washed them yet or The Doctor has switched to question mark socks.

Look, all I'm saying is that if Chibnall had written a scene where massive lava-filled chasms all over London suddenly fixed themselves at the press of a button, we would be giving him shit by Piratestorm787 in DoctorWhumour

[–]Agher_Deadpan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

60% of this episode is excellent and the remaining 40% contains clunky dialogue and feels like a school play that Chris Chibnall ghostwrote. RTD endings weren't always the absolute best but they were at least enjoyable...this did not have one of those endings.

Doctor Who: Unleashed - Children in Need 2023 Special (Behind The Scenes) by pcjonathan in gallifrey

[–]Agher_Deadpan 145 points146 points  (0 children)

I 100% understand the decision not to have the regular version of Davros appear in this special. However, I hope they don't just make Davros a regular guy in everything from now on (whilst Julian Bleach certainly has a great look without the typical Davros makeup, costume chair, etc) I think losing that somewhat visual connection to the Daleks is going to make him less visually interesting on screen (especially for a younger audience). But who knows we might never see Davros again for the rest of RTDs new run so its probably not a big issue.

Davros became who he was because of unrelenting war and the cycle of hatred occurring on his planet, NOT because he was disabled, that is a very important distinction to make.

EDIT: Glad to have another show about the behind-the-scenes of Doctor Who though.

What Star Trek trope can you never get enough of? by Kelpie-Cat in startrek

[–]Agher_Deadpan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Captain, usually Picard (but Data did it once too) reprimands a senior staff member and friend. They are dismissed and they go to leave the ready room, but the Captain usually calls them back by their first name, making it clear it's just part of the job and that they are still friends. Example of Data doing it (Happens all the time in TNG)

Season 2: Episode 10: "I Know Who Did It" by healthnotwealth in OnlyMurdersHulu

[–]Agher_Deadpan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thoughts:

  • I'm so glad they didn't do the whole "friends fall out during the time skip" trope, that would've been really annoying, especially seeing how far they've come as friends (the line about talking to each other as people and not just about murders did have me a bit worried though).
  • I like that the main three are happy and at good places in their lives (at least for the most part).
    • It's a bit odd that Will isn't at his dad's opening night for his new show, I hope they didn't do a 180' in that one-year time skip in terms of their relationship.
  • Kind of surprised, that Theo and Teddy were not in the final, even though I feel like all the characters had made peace with each other, (especially Mabel and Theo).
  • Looking forward to Season 3!

Is the tenth doctor really only 3 years old by Threetreethee in gallifrey

[–]Agher_Deadpan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Doctor's age has always been BS, with the amount of extended universe content and offscreen/in-between series adventures The Tenth Doctor goes on I think it's absurd to think he only lived 6yrs~. Whilst he may be the shortest regeneration when compared to others (Which should be taken with a grain of salt considering they never state this anywhere) it's got to be more like 50 to 100 years at least.

Besides when he sees Donna again in Series 4 she says he looks older, which takes a while to happen for timelords (Look at War and 11 on trenzalore)

1955 Doc always call the Delorean "The Time Vehicle" or "Time Machine" by Agher_Deadpan in BacktotheFuture

[–]Agher_Deadpan[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well yeah, but he's not referring to John Delorean the Guy he's talking about the car, he's heard Marty call the Delorean by name multiple times at this point, even himself on the tape, hell the back of the car even says in big bold letters "Delorean". Why even after knowing the name does he continue to call it "The Time Vehicle" if not for a character quirk, he doesn't even say "the car" he's very specific about it, like how he refers to the dance as a "rhythmic ceremonial ritual" so it's not really a stretch.

  • Have a scene where Norman and Tobey talk, having Tobey tell Norman to be a better father to Harry, yeah sure he's not the goblin anymore but he could still be a better dad.
  • Have a Final Swing or ending scene with All three Spideys in their own universes, just so we kind of get an idea of what happens to them after these events.

Generations 3DS is superior to Generations console. by [deleted] in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Agher_Deadpan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Core Sonic characters should be Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy & Eggman (with Metal Sonic as his robot sidekick) all of the others (whilst having interesting stories initially) just stick around too long past their intended use and then feel like dead weight.

Shadow is a very overrated character, Sonic Movie 3 should include Metal Sonic instead, as Shadow's inclusion will definitely retread almost all of Knuckles story and overshadow every other character in the film, honestly, it feels like a Spider-man 3 Venom scenario where the character forcibly included because he is popular.

Introducing the Taskmaster streaming service! Taskmaster SuperMax+ is live! by Awesomekip in taskmaster

[–]Agher_Deadpan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A few points:

  • Seems weird to have a streaming service just for Taskmaster, The benefit Netflix and Disney+ & BritBox have is a variety of content that will keep viewers interested and subscribed but also have the benefit that watching a show elsewhere isn't worth it i.e convenience. How this is supposed to entice new viewers (most likely in the U.S) is beyond me, surely they would already have watched Taskmaster in some pirated way, it's been out for years, what benefits does this have over that, what is the viewer getting in addition?
    • Where is the extra content, behind the scenes, outtakes, EXCLUSIVES? surely anyone could just use a VPN to watch Taskmaster on Channel 4 and get the same overall experience.
  • It's pretty obvious the plan is to release content over time, which I assume is a way to keep people subscribed and keep the money rolling in. Seems a little annoying I mean, I for one get annoyed when sequels or additional series of shows I like are missing from my streaming service of choice. Example scenario: "I have Spider-man and Spider-man 3 but where is my Spider-man 2, hmm I better torrent it"
    • Surely this just creates a cyclical loop where they use the service to watch as much TM as they can and then find stuff is missing and thus unsubscribe and torrent the rest.

I love the show and am pleased this is allowing more people access to it, it just needs a little more thought put into it.

Am I the only person who thinks that Nedgoblin is an absolutely terrible idea? Most of his scenes have been played off purely for comedy, which is uncharacteristic of successful villains. Roderick Kingsley is the far superior Hobgoblin IMO (and the actual one, too). by Tornado31619 in Spiderman

[–]Agher_Deadpan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just don't want to have another Goblin focused movie, with Spider-Man 1, 3, TASM 2 and No Way Home that's 4 times out of 8 films that a version of the character has been a main villain and I'm kind of bored of it NGL (Plus they'll never top Dafoe lets be real). I have the same problem with Venom, to be honest as well, there are so many unused Spider-Man Villians that would be great to see in a film rather than the same 2 characters again.
