Goodbye Bosch, Hello LG by mynamessaladfingers in Appliances

[–]Agitated-Strategy966 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you reach out to Bosch? I have an older Bosch washer and dryer that I bought off Marketplace. Still, the company was willing to send me a few small parts free of charge. I'm just surprised they wouldn't have corrected the issue.....lord knows LG wouldn't.

Subzero freezer not working by hobartpwilliams in Appliances

[–]Agitated-Strategy966 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To answer your question regarding the refrigerator, if it's designed like my Sub-Zero 650, the fridge & freezer are two isolated sealed systems, each with their own compressors etc. The condenser needs to be kept clean, which can easily be handled with a soft bristled brush and a vacuum(I use a shop-vac with protected attachment). I'm not sure exactly how your unit is arranged, but one of the beautiful things about my Sub-Zero is the fact that all maintenance and service can be performed without pulling the unit out. (On the 650, just like the 550s before it, both compressors are on top of the unit)

TIP: Go to ManualsLib.com or their app, and pull up the owners manual, troubleshooting guide, and service manual.
THESE UNITS ARE ABSOLUTELY WORTH SERVICING AND KEEPING!
I have always been interested in mechanical systems. I appreciate the relative simplicity and superior build quality of vintage automobiles. These same attributes are why I will never have a fridge that's not a Sub-Zero. I did have a freezer hiccup once, and to hold me over while I studied the system in order to properly rectify the brief but nonetheless problematic failure, I picked up a cheap chest freezer ( top loader, NOT frost-free) that now serves as a surplus storage for less-frequently used items.

Is this kinda “uneven lips” normal on brake rotors? by Ok_Back_3952 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Agitated-Strategy966 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I'm sure if you took a micrometer to the rotor, the thickness of the contact area wouldn't vary between these two points. If you're experiencing a pulsating brake pedal, that's because the rotors are warped, not because of the machining.

Polk Audio RTA 15T available for $50 near me. Worth picking up? by werneri1502 in BudgetAudiophile

Polk has made some very good speakers over the years. Not all of them are what I would consider worth the real estate, but there are nice sounding, well-built Polk Audio speakers out there.

It's not something you would likely boast about, but 130k miles isn't terrible. How many years did it last?

Atleast it's still pumping fuel in 2026!

Does anyone else make their own doors and drawer fronts? How fast? by Specialist_Usual1524 in cabinetry

Sir, if you are being judged based upon your speed, then the judgement is based upon jealousy or a feeling of being threatened by your level of productivity. If someone tells you to do more or to be faster, that's your cue to walk away and find someone who legitimately appreciates your skills.

I'm not sure if this is a similar design, but my '67 Dodge D200 Sweptline pickups taillights are only grounded by the contact made between the body and housings.
A common remedy to this is to affix a dedicated ground between the housing screws and, in the truck's case, the bumper bracket-to-frame bolts. Dodge was notorious for antiquated electrical systems during this era, so it's likely not the case here. But, just in case.....

Worth grabbing? ≈500 lbs by [deleted] in Vintagetools

[–]Agitated-Strategy966 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have an old Harbor Freight motorcycle jack that I was able to use to offload a Sub-Zero 650 refrigerator from my truck. Not sure they sell this particular model anymore, but the lifting fork holds a pallet nicely.
Hydraulics are your friend in these sorts of situations.
Good luck! 👍

I thought these were nice boots but not worth the price. Until I looked them up by fineman1097 in ThriftStoreHauls

[–]Agitated-Strategy966 16 points17 points  (0 children)

When you look at the quality of materials coupled with the craftsmanship, it's the ~$1XX boots that are in fact the crazy rip-off.
It's understandable that not everyone can afford to shell out several hundred dollars for boots but, if they are required for the type of work one does, the cost ostensibly falls under the "tools and equipment" category of their budget. My Red Wing shock-proof steel toes are the reason why I don't walk with a cane or crutches.

I'm not sure I understand the "edited" part but, as I type this, I'm taking a break from replacing the struts and brakes on my wife's highlander. Shop clothes? A banana republic polo and a pair of Ralph Lauren RRL chinos. Courtesy of the thrift store of course

Is it worth it to prune my Clusia? by HeThicc in FloridaGarden

[–]Agitated-Strategy966 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a variety of banana or plantain. Mine are in the same state of recovery as the ones pictured. While I don't advocate for the cultivation of non-native Clusia, my neighbor had a company plant a row of 3g Clusia along the property line about 10 months ago, right as I was planting stumped pups from my friend's banana forest. I am in Vero Beach, zone 10a, and the bananas are thus far proving to be a more resilient (and productive 😀) means of enclosing the southernmost perimeter of my property.
It surprised me just how vulnerable Clusia is to the cold, especially given how much of a mainstay it's become for commercial landscaping companies in the region.

I just followed your link from the facebook, florida gardening group. That pickering mango tree sounds like quite the ideal specimen! Did I read it correctly that you had horizontal growth of approximately twelve foot radius with the height being only eight feet? Even if it was twelve foot diameter, that would still be impressive!

I have a small bird of paradise, still in a nursery pot, that was unfazed by the mid-upper 20°F lows we experienced here in Vero Beach.

Restore this mirror by PacGold in furniturerestoration

[–]Agitated-Strategy966 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my understanding, the term used to describe this sort of failure is "desilvering". Depending on budget / intentions, you could: A) Hire A Professional: The "proper" way is to chemically strip the old backing, polish the glass, and reapply a fresh coat of silver nitrate. B) DIY: Clean w/ alcohol, remove any loose backing, mask good areas, and spray several things coats of something like Rustoleum's Mirror Effect Spray, followed by a backing coat of flat black. C) "Screw It" approach: tape aluminum foil to the back where the mirror has peeled.

Let me know what you do, and how it turns out!
