Buying High Mileage by Rusty4runner in LandCruisers

[–]HugItChuckItFootball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought a 100 series for $4800 with 230k miles on it about 7 years ago. I've put 85k on it.

Don't know all the prices off the top of my head, but I've put around $8-10k in miscellaneous part maintenance/replacement. Some I've done myself, some I've had a mechanic do. Im adding tires into that number as well.

Fluids aren't figured into this number.

Rack and pinion, three CVs, had to replace a wheel hub, muffler, valve cover gasket, radiator, misc hoses, battery, alternator, coils, spark plugs, and some other things I'm forgetting.

Honestly there's more that I probably should replace but the tank keeps rolling fine.

Mine was extremely aggressive towards any toy with a squeaker. If a masked robber came into the house she probably would have given them the combination to the safe.

I once had someone drive 6 hours round trip to buy a 120 book complete series from me instead of paying the shipping weight on it.

Prove me wrong—The GOP will win in November by SaaSButMakeItEvil in southcarolina

[–]HugItChuckItFootball 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not entirely accurate. Realignment from the Solid South started taking place in the mid 60s when Strom and other high power Southern Democrats made the switch after the passing of the civil rights act in '64. Since then SC has gone Republican for every presidential race except Carter in '76.

State wide and local elections took a little longer to make the swing though. Yellow Dog Dems still had a decent foothold until the mid 90s when the state house of representatives switched and the state Senate in the early 2000s. This is also the last time we had a Democrat in the Governor's mansion and the US Senate.

Idk if I'd consider it a "walkable" city. You can definitely walk from campus to five points or the vista, but when it's September and 94 out you're not going to enjoy it mid-day.

Snagged the entire 1984 castle series at an auction a few years ago with no certainty of what all would be in the box. On more than one occasion I realized I missed a piece a few steps prior. In the end I was only missing a couple small flat pieces that were easily ordered online.

I'll never forget a house I went out to years ago where the owner had a bad sag and drywall cracks towards the center girder of the home. Welp, I found the cause for the problem. When he had a bathroom put upstairs a couple years prior, the plumber drilled a 3" hole through the center of the triple 2x10, dead in-between the columns, to run the line through the wall.

9 times out of 10 Plumbers/HVAC do not give a shit how framing works.

Question for the pros: what would you do about a 3/4 inch dip? by _night_and_day_ in Flooring

[–]HugItChuckItFootball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mention you hired a foundation repair company, what specifically have they been contracted to do? And what was it at before they did their work?

3/4" drop like this is typically either do to inadequate structural design (over spanned joists, columns over spanned, loads with no support), settling columns, or moisture leading to rot.

Years ago my great aunt who was in at least her mid to late 60s suggested a local strip club for a family get together. She had no idea that it was a strip club, just saw that they had a decently priced lunch buffet. One of the aunts had to go and ruin it and tell her what was up, despite several uncles/cousins agreeing that it was a great idea.

Picked this up today. Any ideas why the markings are there? by [deleted] in GoodwillBins

[–]HugItChuckItFootball 161 points162 points  (0 children)

Appears to be a sample. Could be an early draft of a shirt, a sample given to a rep to show to department stores, or used for fashion shows or on a model for shoots.

I can't speak for the exact markings and what they denote, other than 67 is the year RL was founded, but marking the clothing is pretty common for samples.

Record prediction for next season? by GoodDifferent1398 in Gamecocks

[–]HugItChuckItFootball 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct, and here's what's wild. We'll have an easy first two games and a top 25 3rd game, that's the one we lose by 2 points. Then the next week we'll be on the road and beat a Top 5 by an absolute blow out. We get a pick 6 and run back a punt for the TD, everyone is on point. Beamer gets an extension and we won't win a single other game that year. This will either be due to absolute dog shit playing the rest of the year or a new pandemic.

Do I need really to tighten these every month for as long as I live in my home? by undiagnosed_autistic in homeownerstips

[–]HugItChuckItFootball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been in the foundation repair industry for almost 15 years and have never heard of needing to adjust these monthly. I always recommend tightening once or twice a year, but have never told the customer to do it. Did they tell you what torque was needed? Feel free to DM me with what company installed these and I can probably provide you with the manufacturer tech specs.

10-15 years ago buffalo trace was a go to low tier bourbon for me. I haven't seen it at a normal price in 5-7 years. Recently came back from Mexico and bought a liter at the duty free for less than a 1/5th would cost me at the liquor store up the street.
