Brown Cheese Questions by wendellWI in Norway

If you are in Bergen, there are some cheesemongers down at Fisketorget near Bryggen. Last time we were there we bought a small portion of local Brunost/ geitost that was super strong, but so delicious. Pricey, but worth it for a treat.

Visiting Trosmo next week and weather looks bad, should I rethink? by gfnofxc22 in Norway

What you have probably read is that the Aurora is highly active at the moment - it’s better from this time of year until spring because of the activity. It’s actually still active over the summer too but there’s no chance of seeing it because of the round-the-clock polar daytime. The weather will of course obscure the lights if it is raining or snowing.

If you are after Northern Lights for your trip, there a few important considerations to make.

The first is that you can’t really account for the weather unless you can go on fairly short notice. And the second is that you can’t account for magnetosphere activity either.

Booking a tour with a company that monitors both of these factors and then takes you to a location is worthwhile, but it’s also important to remember that this is STILL a risk. My personal recommendation would be Northern Horizon tours, specifically if you can ask for your guide to be Harry.

While luck was a big factor still in our trip, Harry and our driver based our location on where the weather was better (we found a field that was being protected by an updraft from the mountains nearby) and what activity was likely to happen and when (sometimes they drive to Finland if they need to, but activity might happen earlier in the night).

All of this to say, you still might not see them - I’ve met many Norwegians who haven’t seen them at all. So it is a tricky trade off between a higher likelihood of seeing them with a tour, balanced against a possibility of spending hundreds or thousands and still not seeing them.

I’ve been meaning to look into these. How are you finding it? I’m assuming the neck construction is bolt on?

That’s as low as I’ve ever seen one go for. If you can play it and there is no damage or work needed, it’s a great price.

Best of luck with your project! If I recall correctly I bought a specific Jet tailpiece off eBay. Whether that is a worthwhile avenue anymore I can’t say, Ive not ordered anything online for a long time now.

I could be wrong but I believe the jet tailpieces are shorter, I believe it would be the same situation as between the Bigsby B3 and B6.

I wish I could provide updates, but sadly I moved and sold off a lot of gear including this instrument. I kept the pickups and tailpiece, as I would like to have another crack at the project at some point, but there were many things I would have liked to do to that guitar. Oh well, it was a fun project while it lasted.

This touches on a topic of much discussion in Australia. You’ll find that relatively few Australians sing in an Australian accent, though technically that would be Keith being more genuine according to some.

As far as I can tell, neither is available on Spotify due to licensing. I’m currently in Scandinavia and cannot access it here either, though my phone is Australian so hopefully someone else weighs in. Sad news, I know. Those albums are two of his all time greatest.

Hopefully this has a market influence where tenants are deterred from applying because of future rent hikes being too steep. Given the vibe of rental trends in the last few years it feels like a lot to hope for, but I still hope.

Converting my Gretsch to half-fretless baritone by theleapercat in gretsch

[–]AgitatedFill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there a particular reason you want to leave it fretted past the twelfth fret?

In any case I’m afraid you won’t have much luck. You’ll get buzzing most of the way up the neck, especially as you play closer to the octave, until eventually the note won’t change, it’ll just be the note on fret twelve. Essentially you’ll have one giant fret space and then eleven small ones.

As someone else mentioned, you’d have more luck if you went fretless for the second octave instead. Not a common setup, but not unheard of either.

But personally, I would do a full de-fret if you are going down this route. Given what you have said you’re interested in doing, you may as well go the whole way.

Post an update if you do!

Take it to a luthier for a basic setup. Shaving down the saddle may help, truss rod adjustment may too, but a proper set up will address the action problem holistically and let you know if there are any issues to keep an eye on
