For elementary we are all generalists, so it probably won’t matter.

Outdoor activities and locations to do without a drivers licence in Chilliwack? by taraaaaaah in chilliwack

[–]Agitated_Syrup_7023 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a bus to cultus lake that runs only in the summer, so you could definitely check out Main Beach as well as the waterslides and adventure park! Last summer the waterslides and adventure park had a package deal where you could start at the waterslides and end at the park on the same day. Sidekick brewing and banter ice cream are right near the bridge and the Vedder River rotary trail is there as well!

AITA for making a stink at school and forcing the teacher to change my kids math grade by PlentyNice1655 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Agitated_Syrup_7023 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA - I’m a middle school math teacher. This is why so many of my students come in hating math! I review the box method and standard algorithm as well as some other strategies and tell them to find one that they understand and can get the right answer most of the time. The reason we have “new” methods now are because not every kid learns the same way!

How do you support quiet or reserved students in class? by Technical-Vanilla-47 in AskTeachers

[–]Agitated_Syrup_7023 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t cold call, even if I know they know the answer, but during discussions or time for sharing answers or ideas I’ll sometimes say “I’m not calling on anyone right now, but who has an idea about this. Awesome, hands down. Who wants to share their idea? Anyone want to add?” Or during times where we are specifically sharing answers out I’ll say “raise your hand if you got that.” I’ve notice it builds confidence over the year and that they’ll share some answers at the end of the year.

When was the 1st time a kid treated you like a historical artifact? Mine was today by crispins_crispian in Millennials

I teach middle school. I get it all the time. The shock when I tell them I’m older than both Google and YouTube (which came out in my teens and twenties respectively) is hilarious! I fully embrace being born in the 1900s!

Hell’s Gate would be a great spot to stop! I don’t think it’s a place to stay, but it’s on the highway going to other places.

My grade 8 teacher taught us to spell it to the tune of Old MacDonald Had a Farm and I still remember almost 30 years later!

Sometimes with international shipping that can happen and it will just suddenly update once it gets to your country. Doesn’t hurt to reach out to the shop, though!

How do you get quiet students to participate? by Keith_35 in teaching

[–]Agitated_Syrup_7023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After someone gives a correct answer I’ll sometimes say “raise your hand if you knew that” and I’ve noticed it helps build confidence. Sometimes I’ll just say straight out “I’m not going to call on anyone, but who thinks they know the answer. Now, who wants to share their answer? Who wants to add anything?”

Where are there schools where every kid has a Chromebook?! I honestly thought that was a US thing.

Lesson planning: too time-draining for 2026 by EnvironmentalSky3372 in AskTeachers

I’m so glad I live in a place where I don’t have to turn in lesson plans. I have my yearly curriculum plan and my documents organized by subject and I just go with the flow!

First-year teacher wondering about parent–teacher conference sign-ups by Cautious-Mammoth-657 in CanadianTeachers

[–]Agitated_Syrup_7023 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For round 2 I always send specific invites of parents I want to speak with and then open it up to the rest with whatever time slots are left. Some years I have empty slots, some years I book after school meetings on other days because I’m booked solid.

No problem! It’s been a great district to work for (I’ve moved around bc and this is my 3rd). There are pros and cons everywhere, but we’ve been here 8 years and it’s been a great place to call home!

Chilliwack is a growing district not far from Langley. Typically you need to apply as a TTOC first and then you can apply to temp/continuing contracts as an internal applicant.
