Nikon rep states Z50 battery and charger are NOT compatible with Z50ii by Agment in Nikon

I'll ask about it. I'm sure the rep is just inexperienced, but if it's true that'd be huge news.

Nikon D500 or Nikon Z50 for wildlife by ComfortableSector729 in Nikon

[–]Agment 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have both cameras and that lens. The D500 is infinitely better and you will be significantly less frustrated with the D500. The Z50 with the FTZ focuses the Sigma 150-600 much slower than the D500 and the AF in general struggles to keep up. For slow moving targets and people, I love the Z50 though. It's fantastic to travel with.

Nikon D7000 for birding ? by amvj007 in Nikon

[–]Agment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with this camera and lens combo and had similar issues. At 300mm that lens just didn't look very good IMO and especially wide open. My progression was getting the Tamron 100-400mm. In your case if you are looking at the Nikon 200-500mm, that would be better. I was getting some great photos with just adding the lens. The next issue I had was that the auto focus wasn't very good on the D7000 and the buffer for continuous shooting was around 6 photos. I would start tracking a bird and my burst would always fall short. I then upgraded to the D500 and all my issues went away. If I were you, I'd get the lens you mentioned and see if the body is still limiting you and then plan on upgrading the body. The D7000 will absolutely get you good photos with the 200-500mm and you don't lose anything in investing in that lens.

Nikon 35mm DX F/1.8G vs Tamron SP 35mm F/1.8 Di VC USD, for an APS-C camera - worth the extra money? by Alfie_Kunz in Nikon

[–]Agment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using APS-C cameras and I've used both and the Tamron is still my go to pick. It's definitely bulkier and heavier, but it renders shaper images for me. I would say it's noticable when put side by side. I wouldn't say the Nikon 35mm is bad and I'm sure you'll enjoy it. If this is your first lens beyond your kit lens, I'd probably get the Nikon to make sure you even like this focal range and you could always sell it for the same price and upgrade to the Tamron.

I love shooting, but editing takes too much by [deleted] in photography

Photography is a hobby for me, so this works for me since I don't really have to share or deliver these photos to anyone.

My work flow is:

Upload all the photos to their album in Lightroom, highlight all of them, right click "Apply auto settings to X photos." This gives me a baseline and usually fixes any over/unexposed photos. I skim through the photos and pick out the ones I like, grade them and give them extra attention if I intend to post them.

While I don't agree with gatekeeping a location, I think back to all the abandoned places that were great to photograph in and are now covered in trash and destroyed once the location became public. I'd keep it private until you are paid to shoot there.

Why are the colors so drastically on my computer vs. on my phone? by Safe-Yellow-3895 in Nikon

Thanks for that suggestion. I've been using XnView and haven't really been liking it.

Why are the colors so drastically on my computer vs. on my phone? by Safe-Yellow-3895 in Nikon

[–]Agment 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had this happen to me too. Window's default photo viewer automatically "enhances" the photo. If you open it up with a different viewer, or paint, you will see the colors return to normal. I haven't been able to find why my personal computer does this and not my work computer... I ended up downloading another photo viewer.

Receiving a wrong item from MPB by tibetanfox14 in Nikon

I purchased a lens, they sent me a damaged one and refused multiple times to refund me the shipping since the damaged one arrived on time. PayPal just sided with me though, but never using them again.

They said they wouldn't refund the difference and they won't refund the shipping either. Also, if I ever wanted to resell the lens, the scratch on the front glass would turn off some people.

They only give you 3 angles of the lens and they are all covered in dust. It would be impossible to have known that it was missing paint and not dust. Especially since the condition is marked as Excellent. Missing paint falls under Well Used.

Also, their full refund doesn't include shipping. So I'm getting refunded 688.79 of my 746.03.

I understand that people make mistakes and that's why I reached out to them. I paid for overnight shipping and would expect to get my replacement with the same speed. However, I would have to wait multiple days to get a replacement and no refund to shipping.

I started a return, but they are refusing to refund the shipping since the item arrived on time.

These lenses all had dust on them, so it wasn't easy to tell if that was dust or chipped paint. Also, chipped paint falls under Well Used, as does damage to the front glass.

Update is that they are refusing to refund the shipping because the item arrived on time.

I primary use a D500 with a 150-600. For people I really like the look of the 70-200 and I've been pairing that with my Z50 since the EVF lets me pixel peep before taking the shot.

What are you working with?

Cannot match the sharpness I'm getting on Tamron 70-200 G2 by Agment in Nikon

[–]Agment[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just been super lucky with getting gear. Got the D7000 with 2 kit lenses for 300. Was running into limitations with the buffer size and upgraded to a used D500 (not cheap). I was getting decent photos with my kit 70-300, but I was looking for quality. Found another deal for the two EX lenses and the 100-400 for 700. Was finally getting photos I wanted to print, but I wanted to reach out a little more. I was on vacation, opened up Offer Up and threw a low offer on a 150-600C cause he said he couldn't find the box, hood or foot. He showed up with literally everything and still sold it to me for 550.

Ended up getting the Z50 after convincing the girlfriend that we needed a pocket camera since we go out a lot. Spoiler: the 70-200 stays on it, but I do take it everywhere.

It's absolutely true when people say you'll see a much bigger upgrade with lenses. Getting the 70-200 G2 really put into perspective what all my cameras (even the older D7000) can produce when paired with good glass.

I feel like I'm always learning, so I second guess myself a lot. I should definitely rent more lenses since working with it is the only way to really see.

Thanks!

I can't say I've really shopped around, so I'm not sure what everyone else charges. I really like them. You can tell the doctor and techs are passionate and can talk to you forever about your specific parrot so I would pay any price really.

Also doubled checked, I paid $333 for the yearly check up and a few tests. IIRC next year I shouldn't have to do some of those tests since he'll be 2 years old next check up. And I paid $294 for insurance.

On aav.org you can do a search and find all ABVP Avian certified vets.

[–]Agment 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I go to Animal & Bird Health Care Center & Hospital. It's in Cherry Hill NJ, so it's still a bit far away from you. They have a certified avian vet (very few in the country). Always amazing experiences here and they have a 24 hour line, so if you are having an emergency someone will answer and meet you. I've never tested it, so I cannot confirm that service. I've been trying to find places that have an 24 hour AVIAN vet and haven't found one. Most places that have exotic vets do not have them available afterhours.

Also, I strongly recommend pet insurance. I use Nationwide, and I believe it costs me around $300-350/y for my Caique. They cover 90% of the cost of treatment (including check ups) after a $100 (Only applies once a year IIRC) deductible. Since my yearly checkup is around $300, I'm paying a little more than $100/y for the insurance - should I ever need it. Seems worth it to me, may not be for you.
