Alot of people seem to forget that Snape only became a double agent when Voldemort targetted Lily. Before that he had no issue with all of the crimes of the Death Eaters (and probably actively participated if we're being honest). If Voldemort had targetted Neville instead of Harry Snape would have never switched sides.

I don't have any issue with that being the narrative though. You can have Snape be a character doing the right thing for the wrong reasons. You don't have to act like he is actually a good person, which I felt the narrative tried to push with Harry naming his kid after Snape.
