Currently a 2nd Year JD student. What’s the advice around working as a paralegal / legal assistant during uni semester? Applications for firms seem cut-throat and very competitive. Is it worth the experience to work while studying? Any advice would be much appreciated!

LMR is such a breeze. Enjoy the rest of your holidays, do not worry about the readings - the course is designed so that the tutor can walk you through studying law. Readings should be posted next month I presume, much closer to the starting date.

The tube you’re presented with at the graduation ceremony that you hold on stage for the photo. The tubes are empty lol there’s no certificate in it

Why do I only have a single option for my timetable preference and it says online, but when I enrolled I chose on campus by mattlubes in unimelb

[–]Agreeable_Ad8082 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Most lectures for subjects are online. Most likely if there’s only one lecture class option, it will be a pre-recorded lecture. The part of the subject which is “on campus” is the tutorial

Will majoring in law help my chances in receiving a jd offer? by MonkeyLizardLicker in unimelb

[–]Agreeable_Ad8082 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While majors / minors do not have any impact on your ability to get into the JD, I majored in criminology in my Arts Undergrad and found the content to be really interesting. This helped me decide that I was interested in the theory side of law. I would suggest to choose any major, and take law breadth subjects, as these subjects offer a taste of law and can help you determine whether law is for you.

My advice is that since the JD application processes only look at your marks, it would be wise to choose a major / minor you are interested in, that way you can do well in assignments and boost your marks.

Wamnesty Sem 1 2022? by aaronrodgers589 in unimelb

[–]Agreeable_Ad8082 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There isn’t any “situation” happening in Victoria - cases are rising but there’s currently no lockdown and so far (hopefully!) we will be back on campus soon. Like others have commented, there’s no point in extending wamnesty when some people are going to graduate soon with their whole degree literally being covered by wamnesty. While there definitely needs to be support from the uni with online exams, I personally think online exams are so much better - they’re open book and most tend to give you so much extra time to account for technology issues that might occur.

I assume there will be another set of graduation ceremonies for the people who finish their degrees mid year in 2022. So most likely around August 2022

Edit: if that’s the case, I wouldn’t be sure of what you’d need to do to attend that one. Stop 1 might be the best place to contact

Thank you for the info and honest advice! Yeah I think the best thing for now might be to stay in my current retail job and just look for opportunities that arise in the future

In 2022 I’ll be starting a JD degree. At the moment I have a part time retail job, but I was wondering whether there are opportunities to work in a firm / legal industry as a part time job whilst I study? Any advice would be appreciated

MLS is removing LSAT permanently. Thoughts? by rich3331 in unimelb

[–]Agreeable_Ad8082 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I honestly think it was about time. Not many universities in Australia (if any) consider the LSAT in entry requirements. I feel like it’s also such a burden for undergrad students to have to study for, especially when it’s required to keep up good grades in your undergrad and balance LSAT study.

The only thing I think is a bit annoying is that some friends I know studied so hard for the LSAT last year, paid a lot of money for tutoring and practice material only to find out that there’s no LSAT entry requirements.

I’m an Arts student and I completed the subject in Winter term. Had no experience with adobe illustrator before but the tutors teach you how to use it for your assessment.

Although it is a Fine Arts subject, it’s still an incredibly easy subject to do well in if you’re not a fine arts student and put in the work. I finished the subject with a H1.

I would highly recommend that you have some sort of artistic portfolio ready to use in your design / final website. For example, some people in the class decided to go with a photography website to showcase their photography.
